Was just having a look at the prize funds for last years Europa League and it says that first round qualifying gets 200,000 Euros, does that mean that because we entered into the 2nd round we get 200,000 Euros regardless of our result v Brondby??

As far as I am aware, yes.

It makes a mockery of clubs suggesting that they lose money playing in the EL.

Would earn a ton of cash if we reached the group stages! Long way to go though.

And with a weak GBP against the Euro, the sum would be even better 👍

Question, genuine answers only please.

Do we get this money each round if we go through OR do we only get the amount at the stage we get knocked out at?

So do we get 200,000 plus 210,000 for being in this round and if we go through another 220,000 on top or would it be a one of payment of 220,000 if we went out at the next stage? Hope this makes sense?

Only get money for the stage you are knocked out in, it's not cumulative

But we should be just treating it like a pre season friendly?

So we only get another €10,000 from UEFA if we win through to the next round?

Yes.

The incentive is to get to the group stages clearly, which is what we should be aiming for in any case. If our aim is anything short of that, we'd be as well not taking the field tonight.

Given that there's not much money to be gained from getting through this round, and that we're unlikely to reach the group stages, you can understand that thinking.

A local team and a good crowd in the next round if we get through, will be worth a fair bit to Hibs though.
If we were to draw West Ham, could be looking at a big big payday

That's true, of course. I was meaning the prize-money isn't really an incentive. In fact, 10k extra might result in a loss.

It would if we drew a Russian team as an example

That seems right, but if it's cumulative why is there an amount for group winner and runner up? These teams would both not be going out?

There will be teams with smaller player budgets than Hibs in those groups. We absolutely should be aiming to qualify.

Don't we have to get through two rounds before the likes of West Ham come in?

Those two are 'bonuses' on top of the group stage base fee, sort of like the bonuses for wins/draws.

No some big guns like West Ham go in at the next round played 2 weeks today, these include Spartak Moscow, St Etienne, Lille, Hertha Berlin and panathinikos, Gent etc

Think the draw is tomorrow at 12 noon

If we win this round v Brondby will we be seeded for next round?

Thanks, does seem at first glance a pretty tall order but it really depends on the draw, and of course we have to beat Brondby first. We need to aim to be competing for group league in forthcoming years if we enter the Europa League. I am tired of the lack of ambition and uselessness of Scottish football authorities.
