A Celtic mate of mine has said that there's a strong rumour amongst Celtic fans that Commons is going to Hibs. I've not got any proof that this is really happening, but he was the one who told me last season about the Stokes deal, a while before he actually came to Hibs. I also can't say whether this would be a loan deal or otherwise, but he has been a good source in the past and he doesn't tend to make things up. It's a rumour as far as I'm concerned just now, but he did say that it's gathering a lot of momentum amongst the Celtic fans.

I think Commons would be a good signing though, I'm not as convinced that he'll stroll the league as some folk are, and I do have worries about his fitness.

Thought this was a daft question to begin with....before struggling to think of a player we signed in the post-Sauzee era who has been as spectacular as Commons on top form. It all comes down to that form - is this still the Commons I watched three or four years ago? Must admit that he's dropped of my radar for a while

Stokes. Gray. Nobody could achieve the same now. Griffiths. All have had their time since Sauzee and I would class them the best since. You are right with the gist of your post though. Until he does anything at all in a hibs shirt Commons can't be the best since anyone - even if we do hold his exploits elsewhere in high regard.

Yeah, it pretty much does. We move onto other targets now.

I'd like us to get a move on. It's four weeks on Saturday until the season starts. It's better to have your team ready for the start of the season and not bringing in your players nearer the end of the window. No playing catch up this year, we need to quick out the blocks and leading from the start of the season.

mjhibby

I think we are better placed than we have been for many a year. Bar the goalkeeping situation and the Cummings future being sorted we have a decent squad now foster has re-signed. Stanton and Harris have a chance to prove themselves and Lennon has said repeatedly that he is focussed in being ready for July 6. I'm sure there will be movement in the coming weeks but I'm more comfortable at this time than I have been for a few seasons.

The headline and the article are two different things. A comment from Rodgers that the player is injured and then we will see how he fits into my plans or not.

That's because we have just won the Scottish cup.
The squad is weaker now than last season when we finished third in the championship. Harris, Stanton and Foster were not good enough to make the team last season. We need signings.

Do we really know he was ever a target? Hibs have been good about keeping things under wraps until a deal is done and ghat makes it more of a guessing game for us. In McDonalds case Hibs had to make a statement after his guff, but otherwise we may get a signing done before anyone knows. So its great to speculate, but the Evening Times bit does not mean anything one way or the other imho.

Exactly. Would any player give up £500,000 a year for the £50,000 or so on offer at Hibs?
Could he engineer a lump sum pay off? Would Celtic be bothered about the saving which would be small fry for them?

Realise am in the minority but would rather we spent what would be a large slice of our budget on a couple of exciting young players than risked it on him both being fit and motivated.

If Celtic are happy to get shot of him, he's in the driving seat as far as compensation is concerned, he would also be one of the higher earners in our squad, £3-4k, add the 2 together and he wouldn't be losing too much in the 1st season and at his age maybe money isn't everything.

I'm not sure about the whole Commons thing. He is not fit, he is currently getting injections for his back and if he comes it will only be for big bucks. There is a danger we use up a big chunk of cash for someone who does not play week in week out. A tricky one, I hope he has a thorough medical before any decision is made.

I've always thought that it's not your age, but how hungry you are.

A fit, motivated kris commons would tear this division apart. But a lazy uninterested overweight one will be a waste of a wage.
