Do European employment laws still apply?

Can the Scottish league implement a three foreigner rule like Series A had without consequence?

Especially in the movements of players. I'm sure all the top and middle euro players won't he affected but getting someone in who is the lower end may well struggle to move to the UK.

Hmmm, clubs having to develop home grown players, I like the sound of that!

Yes as enacted into uk law. Of course, with a Tory government for the foreseeable future, let's watch them tear worker's rights apart.

mjhibby
24-06-2016, 07:20 AM
Indeed there could be a very detrimental affect on workers rights which were already being hammered. I do hope this govt doesn't last many years for so many reasons.

No laws, nope, but the bigger clubs themselves took to paying for foreign imports on a big scale.

FWIW, I wasn't being entirely serious, more trying to look for a bright side in despair.

Sounds about right

"English players may not be able to move to the continent freely and EU nationals could be subject to entry restrictions when seeking to play in England"

According to this guy, it only applies to England and English Players, so it shouldn't affect Scotland, Wales and NI.

Now you come to mention it I remember my mum and dad paying some cash at the airport when we went to marmaris.

We were in Marmaris in the mid eighties and had to put an English fiver , no Scottish money, into a huge cardboard box on arrival at the Airport. It all began when the President of Turkey visited the UK and was not afforded a state visit welcome. He had to queue with all the other arrivals to go through passport control. Revenge was his 5 pound visa for British arrivals.

The foreign players, even those eligible, will not come here because of the plummeting value of the pound will mean they are playing for peanuts.

Also the big clubs will gather in all the best UK players meaning that clubs like Hibs will have to pay over the odds.

This certainly happened in the early 1990s when Rangers and Celtic had to play eight Scots and three non-Scots in European competition.

I stand corrected. Turkey gained full membership of the EEC in 1987 and joined the EU Customs Union in 1995, but even though they applied for full membership of the EU in 2005, they are still in 'formal accession negotiations' and as yet are not full members.

You sure it was Turkey you were in ?? All British folk have to go in a queue for a visa on arrival and pay an English tenner, been happening to me since I first went in 2009 and still happened last year in 2015, maybe you went to Greece lol

Yes, and guess who had a Scottish tenner? Thank God for the Turkish air hostess who gave me one of hers.

For the past few years online visas have been available here:
https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/

Prior to that the 'visa' took the form of a greasy English ten pound note handed over at Passport Control. That arrangement goes as far back as yer pal Thatcher who caused the rift that persuaded the Turks to implement it for Brits (and a few others). If you or your tour operator never handed your tenner over I doubt it was Turkey you were in!

You certainly need a visa to travel to Russia.

That is unless you enter Russia on the Ferry from Tallinn to St Petersburg, I am told.
