Brøndby IF (Danish pronunciation: [ˈb̥ʁɶnb̥y] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_Danish)) is a Danish (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denmark) football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football) club based in Brøndbyvester (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Br%C3%B8ndbyvester), Brøndby (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Br%C3%B8ndby), on the western outskirts of Copenhagen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen) and has almost 2000 members. The club is also known as Brøndbyernes Idrætsforening, or Brøndby and BIF for short. The club, founded in 1964 as a merger between two local Brøndby clubs, has won 10 national Danish football championship (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_football_champions) titles and six national Danish Cups (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_Cup), since the club joined the Danish top-flight football league in 1981.
Since the founding of fellow Copenhagen club F.C. Copenhagen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F.C._Copenhagen) in 1992 (a merger between KB anno 1876 and B.1903 anno 1903), the two clubs have had a fierce rivalry, and the Derby (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_derby) between the two sides called the "New Firm (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Firm_(Denmark))", attracts the biggest crowds in Danish football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_in_Denmark).[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Br%C3%B8ndby_IF#cite_note-1)
In spite of this, Brondby are probably most famous for playing against the mighty Hibernian in 2016. Hibernian, who were fresh from a glorious Scottish Cup victory in May had to make do without Anthony Stokes who had moved to Blackburn Rovers. Stokes however had remained "on fire".
