It's the best international football anthem written specifically with football in mind.

That said, the competition in that particular sub-category isn't exactly extraordinary.

Yep I agree with him, as a football anthem that is adopted by a nation it is up there. Individual club anthems are a different matter altogether, YNWA & SOL are my top two 😁

No getting away from it a brilliant anthem and one that I personally think is unsurpassed.
It captures everything a football fan could feel.
It's hard to keep it out of your head after hearing it with its catchy, infectious melody and profound lyrics.
As a side note: England were so, so unlucky in those penalty shoot outs with Germany and Gazza missing that almost certain winner right on the goal line.

Agree. Its a great fitba song.

Personally love 'i have a dream' but its notbin the same league.

Ive always thought that a football song is only good if the fans can sing it spontaneously on the terracing. Three lions defo meets that criteria.

Also reminds me of the halcyon days of my youth when scotland were not complete football nobodies.

It's a great football song.

Especially when sung by the German fans.

They were discussing this on Radio 5 Live this morning. Lead singer of the Farm said the best football songs are those not written for football but picked up by the fans and his opinion was "Hibernian's Sunshine on Leith" is the best.

The best football song, written for and performed by a squad has to be We Have a Dream.

Quite like Three Lions and Vindaloo. Much better than the Scottish one with primal Scream and Irvine Welsh (sorry!)

I was actually listening to the Primal Scream/Irvine Welsh one on Saturday night!! It's a decent tune, but definitely not one you could sing on the terraces. Did Black Grape not do one back then as well? England's Irie or something like that?

I think it's class and so's Vindaloo.

Unlike many I couldn't care less if they win it or no

Peter Hooton is a good mate of John Doolan & was at a few games at Easter Road last season. One of them being the 2-1 game vs the Zombies in November. It's the reason why we started playing 'Altogether Now' by The Farm before games too.

He was Tweeting a fair bit about the Scottish Cup final & Sunshine On Leith afterwards.

It's a good time to promote sales which generate royalties[emoji6]

Despite being another England one, World in Motion is way better than 3 Lions. That's the best officially football penned song - even better than Scotland's 'Big Trip to Mexico' which I have on 7"...

Agree that is just a good song, football or otherwise.

But fans cant sing it, so that rules it out as a 'fitba song'

World in Motion is the best footie song and Sunshine on Leith the best fans song (a mention on Radio 6 music this morning too)

I had to listen to all three. I like SOL the best but 3 Lions is brilliant too. World in Motion is great too but maybe harder to sing for the fans. My favorite was this world cup song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5moKfZ9Y2Q) which strangely was never adopted by the fans.

That's interesting, never heard this. I always thought he'd hate Hibs after the feud between The Farm & the CCS back in the day lol

Still kinda fond of Don't Come Home too Soon, might be the video taken in Prestwick Airport that tips it though...

Though I've just seen Colin Calderwood in the video and need to go sit in a darkened room for a while....

I haven't seen that for years - great song and video.

Interesting to see Scot Gemmill in there.

Colin Calderwood also made a brief appearance. He would have featured more but seemingly he spent too long in the wee shop choosing his confectionery for the trip.

Maybe in the English language, but I'm sure the Germans would disagree with you. They have got 4 world cup successes to celebrate after all

Having stood at Wembley in 96 and watched MCAlisters miss, Gazzas goal, when the English finally grasped they had another song than En-ger-land, it was a horrific yet impressive moment. Blinding football tournament song.

World in Motion though I think surpasses it in terms of a tune. Obviously SOL is the best anthem ever.
