BBC rambling on about it now. They link the pitch invasion 100% with Hibs. But fail to make the link between sectarian singing and The Rangers. A total embarrassment of a news broadcaster.

Very strong statement from the Scottish Government today basically saying that football must get its house in order or else the government views it as necessary to take action for them. He's had his hand forced. It's an utter disgrace that it comes to this. Fair play to the new justice secretary, whoever he is.

Maybe the politicians are circling and he's hoping to get something pre - emptive in so as to keep some control of it himself before ultimately doing nothing again?

Looking forward to seeing the Regan imposed penalty for same, glad we didn't do any.

A few of the club reps were interviewed after the meeting with Ray Gun and all said they felt like school kids being lectured!

You might not be saying that if the SFA use Hibs as a scapegoat to show they are "Getting there house in order."

Looks like it - talksport were reporting that Regan is backing Petrie despite the criticism he received for his post match interview.

That the clubs continue to tolerate Regan and Doncaster as the figureheads of our game is the most damning indictment of how terrible Scottish football is at all areas of 'off the field' stuff.

Two absolute morons.

I think behind the scenes the way the media/Regan/huns have disgracefully jumped the gun has enraged politicians/policescotland/virtually all other clubs in Scotland and there has been a word in Regan's ear to get his hun arse in tune with the mainstream.

He is a hun puppet but now being pulled in another direction by good people who want a level playing field.

Government-involvement is long overdue IMHO. It is Scotland's national sport, NOT, as it's being run just now, by the corrupt/bigoted and greedy few whose only interest is ensuring EVERYTHING is shared between 2 clubs - 2 clubs who very rarely paint Scotland in a good light !!

The fact the Hun are still in our game is proof of the SFA/GFA's guilt !

Justice scretary came across as a ' look at me look at me' twat. Sort it or we will.
No waiting on the outcome of the review to find out what has to be sorted and no suggestion on how he would sort whatever he wanted sorted and no offer to collaborate.
simply took his chance to get on the telly and look impotent....important.

If the pitch invasion hadn't happened then we would have heard nothing about the sectarian singing, the foul abuse of AS & the smoke bombs. In addition, as is normal when we play The Rangers in Glasgow our fans would have been verbally & physically abused & again no action would have been taken. Mathieson is talking through his erchie, there's already laws in place that can be effectively utilised, unfortunately there's no will to do that. As for Regan & Doncaster, AS is swapping one set of Chuckle Brothers for another. A pair of weak, self serving, incompetents.

Regan and the SFA are in a very difficult position as ultimately they are responsible for fan/player etc safety.

Sub-contracting to GS4 or whoever does not mitigate the corporate responsibility they have for their customers inside Hampden on 21 May.

The Police will also have footage of scenes outside with Rangers fans - as reported by the Daily Record - and they can also easily identify the masses singing re "Fenians" via their surveillance system/footage and Rangers database of ticket sales etc ..

I am sure RP and Hibs will be reminded Regan of this - if not they bl**dy well should be.

Hibs will be fined, Rangers will be fined but I think the SC Final 2016 will be a defining moment for Sectarianism in Scottish Football. Well let's hope it is.

No, no, no, a million times no. We should be resisting the persistent politicisation of our national sport by all the main political parties. It's an absolute joke driven by the idiots who support both sides of the Old Firm who believe football allegiances define every aspect of their lives, and a desperate fading tabloid media clinging to its last shreds of relevance.

Regan and Doncaster love to copy the FA down south on everything else, if they'd just look to them for some lessons on promotion of the game instead of just how to name our leagues and desgin a logo then we'd be in a much better place.

If the government gets involved, we could find ourselves banned from international competition.

FIFA does not look too favourably upon government intervention.

Scottish football is nuts and I have zero trust in anyone at the SFA, SPFL or the Scottish Parliament to solve it. All I know is Hibs have put a cat amongst the pigeons. Hope they all feel very uncomfortable.

The Scottish football authorities have repeatedly refused to deal with sectarianism, so it's long overdue that something is done about it.

If that means the Scottish Government decides to hold clubs accountable for the behaviour of their fans and repeatedly fine them until the abuse stops, then so be it. Would anyone be in favour of the Scottish Government doing nothing if those chants were aimed at blacks, women or gays?

FIFA are goosed anyway and have bigger things to sort out than the fallout from a Scottish Cup Final. In any case, the SNP introduced the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act back in 2012. That worked out well eh?

Sectarian (or racist, to address the hypothetical at the end of your post) chanting is a criminal offence and should be dealt with by the police and judiciary without interference from government.

The SNP (and I say this as someone who votes for them) have walked all over the separation of powers between the government and the judiciary in recent years enough, with football a prime example, without further knee jerk reactions to a sodding wee pitch invasion.

If it takes government intervention and a FIFA ban from international competition to drag the SFA out of the 17th Century, so be it. At some point they've got to waken up and realise that there's a significant percentage of the population who are sickened by the continuing pandering to certain whims. Since Rangers imploded in 2012, there's been so many positive stories they could be selling to the world. So many clubs winning their first ever trophies, the resurgence of Aberdeen, not to mention a certain team breaking a 114 year hoodoo. If they're so blinkered that they can't see what's happening around them, they deserve every punitive measure they get. As has been mentioned elsewhere, the nation deserves better from the custodians of the national game.
