The game is being played in Malta for some reason which might be why we agreed to play this. Our first game of our World Cup group is away to Malta in September.

pretty awful........mind you it's end of season and 2nd or 3rd team. It looks like a potentially good team versus a third division outfit which is well organised but not interested in attacking.

At times there are 6 players across the back so we have our 6-4 -1 which we played in Prague not too long ago-

I might give the patio doors a second coat of wood-stain and then watch them dry rather than watch the 2nd half.

Surely their had to be fringe players that could've got a game ahead of these guys ?????

Mibbes Aye

I only watched the latter stages of the first half and the end of the second half.

What jumped out was Italy's ability to press when we were in possession and close down our options.

That's not dependent on technical ability with a ball at your feet, that's just about players thinking about their position and moving accordingly.

I kind of took hope from it, in that they were far superior but to match them we just need to play smarter and that's something that's coachable, given time.

29-05-2016, 08:57 PM
last picture was strachan with hands over his face in the dugout so we guess a frustrating night for him. Scotland did better the second half but technically miles apart still.
I think we got 1 pop at goal. Italy were also heavy legged. They will be much sharper 10 days from now.

Strachan was in the papars today going on about youth and how age doesn't matter when it comes to the Scotland team.. Where are these up and coming young players then ?? I agree Paterson should be in the squad because he's the best of a bad lot at RB just now and does have a future at international level.. Where is Ryan Gauld for example ?? Haven't heard a dicky bird since he went to Sporting...

Gauld has played five first team games in two seasons.

Gauld has played five first team games in two seasons. Correct, he has not been in the first team squad, but is being included next season, so time is on his side. By the way I am amazed that other posters are worried about a result against an Italian team preparing for the Euros. More important, we see what the Maltese pitches are like (answer, could be tricky) and see if we can find anyone to add a bit more to what has been a good Scotland team under Strachan but which is still lacking up front.

I am not worrried about the result of the match but I am interested in what fringe players have been the chance and are good enough to make the step up to the first team....

The point is that Gauld has not made it yet into the first team squad, so is unlikely to earn a full cap! Also given the number of withdrawals and unavailable players it is not that easy to see how many young players could be included in tonight's team together. Anyway if John McGinn is fit for the France game we will see a big improvement in performance!

OK Gauld and McGinn aside here , why not give McKay , Burke and Kinglsey some game time ?? The goalkeeping situation as well. We know what we are getting with Marshall so why doesn't Strachan give Fox and Hamilton 45 minutes each ??

I can almost place money on those posters will shy away, as some people continue to take great delight in tearing our national team to bits, a team that ACTUALLY aren't even that bad at all!

Past impressive results and performances have proved my point before anyone askes.

Fox and Hamilton are nowhere near as good as Marshall, or even McGregor or the ladyboy. Why hand out caps willy nilly, it should be a privilege an honour to represent your country.

Caps should be earnt not given to every tom dick or harry, Strachan has blooded quite a few new players, and continuity is also vital.

We are not the best team in the world but we are improving, if these kids are good enough they will get their chance.

If we're no turning up to put in a decent shift, then don't agree to play friendlies like this. It doesn't achieve anything to turn up, play nae football, have nae shots on target, but then leave saying "aye but what else can we expect, they're good, and we're no even bothered".

I know that Hamilton and Fox aren't as good as the other three but the only way they are going to get better is by playing games and getting experience... They will never progress by sitting on the bench will they ???

Ah right, you want a weakened team made even weaker, and when they are pumped sideways will you give them some leeway because they are not as good as the players they replaced?
