Think they means in terms of the actual competition rather than the physical trophy.

Thought there would be an explanation and one of our knowledgable supporters would point it out

Think the english cup started in 1871/72. Scottish cup started 1873/74.

Scottish cup is the 5th oldest competition in the world but third oldest that still exists while the FA cup is the 3rd oldest but oldest that still exists.

FA Cup first played for 1871-72. Scottish Cup 1873-74. Not sure how old the actual cups are

Off topic but I think I saw somewhere online that "the Edinburgh foot-ball football club" were the first ever football club in the world. Before Sheffield football club but obviously not in business like Sheffield football club.

Edit*

The name was actually the foot-ball club and were based in Edinburgh.

Thanks for the replies all, maybe the advert should say oldest cup competition, or maybe I'm just being pedantic 😀

At least a Scottish club won the 1st World Championship.....wonder who that was 👍

Sure I heard recently that the FA Cup is on its 3rd version.
Scottish Cup, as far as I know, is still the original trophy.

Don't know how accurate this is but led to believe Rangers are not engraved on the cup. They didn't win it till the base was started.

Great bit of trivia!

Only teams on the actual cup are Queens Park, Vale of Leven, Dumbarton, Renton, Hibernian, Third Lanark, Heart of Midlothian and Celtic.

Did Scottish teams not play in the original FA cup competition?
