Just read that he is on verge of signing for The Rangers ! Pity he wasnt there this year and big Marve would have him in his back pocket. Having read that they are signing a Liverpool lad on £10,000 per week then hopefully it is only a matter of time before they disappearfor ever next time

If Barton is going to them then that honestly is a fantastic signing! Burnley player of the year this season and they won the English Championship. Might be a bit older now but he is a class act who seems to have got over his temper issues. His wages though, must be way beyond The Rangers means? Seems they never learn.

No danger, has connections with Frank McParland at Rangers. Can't believe they've managed to pull this off. Hopefully it just means they have learned zip and will just **** themselves in the long run again. Here's hoping!

You don't surely believe they have no money. Celtic fans on Twitter have been saying that for 4 years, they had 34k season ticket holders this season and will either match or surpass that number next season. They have money to spend. Just hope they don't get Cummings as well. Don't think I could handle that.

If they pay enough then i,m not so sure ? Keatings has as much in his locker, the lad from Dunfermline looks good and remember it is the Championship after all. Will take a million to take him away due to English interest so perhaps cash in and move on

Why would he go there when Burnley just promoted to EPL.

The only reason I can think of is that they think they need better to survive in the premier league.

Barton is a good player so it says more about the increasing demands of that division than anything else.

Perfect fit really. Rangers = a nasty, disrespectful, fake club who think people will forget they are rotten to the core despite trying to reinvent themselves. Barton = a nasty, disrespectful, fake little scrote who thinks people will forget he is rotten.....

Hope they are happy together. Decent player unfortunately!

Of course I'm guessing, but using logic of what English championship players get paid. If Rangers are paying a kid from Liverpool £10k a week Barton will be getting top dollar at Rangers

No chance. Burnleys wage bill is lower than Celtics. He was rumoured to be on 70k a week at QPR so had made his money.

Come up here for £10-£15k a week, chance of a medal or 2, potential European football. Can see why its lucrative for footballers with one eye on retirement.

Huns sold 38,000 season tickets last season. They're hoping for 45k this season even with a 20% price increase. Like Celtic they'll have a few quid to spend.

He's willing to take a wage cut as large as 50% for someone else rather than the 1 year contract that Burnley are offering. As for the 10k a week for the youngster from Liverpool that will be true considering Templeton is on 12k a week at them and his contract is just about to expire. Also read on the Sunday Post that a Rangers deal for Cummings is close.

Bartons a great signing. With him being out of contract I wouldn't be surprised if a Premier club down south came in for him.

My thoughts as well. Don't believe Burnley would want to lose him and would be surprised if the Huns could come close to matching Burnley in terms of salary. He still has a few years left in him and can't see him picking the SPL over premiership at this stage in his career. Great signing if they pull it off though.

Burnley accounts 2015 show a t/o of £ 78 million and staff costs of £ 29 million when they were in the EPl.

Not been sent off since Feb 2013 which suggests he has matured. Also played 90 minutes 30 times out of a possible 36 which shows he has the fitness to keep playing for a while.

Well from the point of view of a Rangers fan he undoubtedly strengthens the squad with experience and quality so I as a Rangers fan would be happy to see that type of experience and quality in the team but with reservations. As you all no doubt know he has a history of explosive moments but if the manger wants him then I expect he thinks he can handle him so I will trust his judgment on this one.

There is also a story coming to light that Mark Warburton has been in New York with a view to signing the Croatian midfielder Niko kranjcar who is currently playing with New York Cosmos and if that were also to come to pass Rangers are building a highly effective midfield.

3 year deal taking him to 36 through most of his final season just doesn't strike me as worthy of the high praise being dished out in this thread.

Potentially a very decent signing for Rangers and would be a bit of a coup under the new regime but it's only a 'big name' because of his antics[I] and the media scrutiny of the EPL.

Judging from what I have heard Barton is on nothing like 30K a week at Burnley and in fact if you do a bit of searching you can find many links talking about the strict wage structure at Burnley which just a few years ago was reported to be capped at 15K a week.

And in addition Barton himself has said on more than one occasion that money isn't his priority at this stage in his career. If he signs for Rangers he will undoubtedly be one of the highest earners there but his decision will be more based around promises of a crack at Euro football in the not too distant future and his relationship with Frank McParland who I think also got him to sign for Burnley.
