Apologies Aldo for not radiating positivity but by not scoring in the first half we gave ourselves a mountain to climb in the second half

We're good enough to beat Raith and Falkirk over two legs even if we don't play quite at our best.
I'm more worried about us running out of steam before Killie and the Scottish cup final.

Expectations are too low. Stubbs clearly said yesterday on the radio that if we won today we would have the same points as last year. Clearly the same is not more. Not more is clearly not improvement.

We gave it a good go today (so did Morton by the sounds of things) Was always gonna be tough to do it today.
On the upside we seem to be finding a bit of form just in time for the play offs & cup final, I was convinced last season we would have been better off finishing 3rd by the time the huns game came around. (might be remembering wrong but felt like too long a break between games)
We can do this, but as always with Hibs we are doing it the hard way
Bring on Raith, bring on that tw@t Houston, we are nowhere near out of this yet and a very special end of season could still be on the cards.

Am disappointed to finish third ,as i do worry about how we can keep our fitness levels at a level that will allow us to be fully physically combative going into the last three games ,which if we beat raith and Falkirk , are then our most important, and define our season
Potentially so mutch still to play for

Well I hope your right & I admire your optimism, but personally I have my doughts I just think it's going to be a step too far to get promotion, think it's another season in this less than glamorous league & if that is the case, some big decisions to be made re players & manager.

We are where we are and we have the squad and have seen the big game mentality come to the fore several times this season. We will not lose to Rangers in the final and I'm in a positive frame of mind for the playoffs - this is a manager who gets pressure and we have an extremely talented midfield as well as Jase and Stokes up front - no defence in Scotland would want to face that pair, especially over two legs
HoboHarry
01-05-2016, 01:58 PM
That we've finished 3rd in a pub league.
You do realise that calling a league that includes Rangers, Hibs and Falkirk a pub league is simply non-factual and makes your statement look stupid right?
We could utilise our squad. I think we'll have to if we want to give ourselves a chance in the finals.
Well you are being positive Pete, but who in our squad are we going to utilise that we have tried to date, who will score goals, Dagnal, Farid don't think so. It really does hurt me that a club I watched competing with the best in England & Europe are now reduced to scraping it out with Raith & Falkirk for the privilege of playing Killie, probably, for a seat at the top table. Too many on here are happy to accept mediocrity, what a sad decline of our famous club, the Famous Five must be turning in their graves.

I'm not being deliberately positive, I'm just saying that we'll need to freshen up if we want to keep players fit. It's more the midfield I'm thinking about.
I'm sorry but you're being negative to say the least. Our strikers are more than capable of scoring and there's no need for this feeling sorry for ourselves attitude. We were in the play offs yesterday so what's changed?
Please don't come out with this "accepting mediocrity" stuff. I thought you were more intelligent than that.

No one is excepting anything. We are where we are and are all as disappointed as the next Hibs fan. Hibs will never compete in Europe like the old days again because the game has changed so much. No Scottish team will including Celtic. So forget that!
When we get into the top flight we will never win the league either imo. We will continue to fight for a Europa spot only to be knocked out in the first leg second if we get lucky.
So overall it doesn't matter where we are as we will have the odd high and more lows it's Hibs and its Scottish football.

Raith will play a direct game to get the ball in amongst us and compete for everything. They'll play like an Ayrshire Junior side at home in a Junior Cup Tie so we will have to be ready.
Tippy tappy and trying to score the perfect goal style that we have will be right up their street.
If you think QoS were negative today just wait til you see Raith defending a one goal lead at ER next week!

Unfortunately they will if we can't put teams to bed early on, we have scorned so many chances this season it has cost us 2nd place if not the league itself. We need to find our scoring boots and quick, and hope the defence do their bit. Going to be a hair pulling end of season I feel, I hope we get that bit of luck that seems to elude us every time.

I'm not talking about "going to die" or anyone hanging themselves. It's football we're talking about here, so a bit of perspective is required.
From a football perspective, like many others I'm disappointed, and also anxious about the future well being of my club if it faces a third consecutive season in this division.
However, I'll just take your reassurance that "we are going to go up at some point". Maybe in what, another three or four seasons?

I don't think any of us really know what's going to happen. It's been a strange season I've seen us get to two finals beating Hearts, Dons who were then top St Johnstone etc. So you could say we will stroll it.
But then look at Alloa and Dunbarton games and you then think oh *****. As I say I honestly think we are more than capable and will do it. But that's just me if we don't Stubbs may find himself out a job.

You have no idea how depressing I find your response. Whats the point of supporting a club with no ambition & an out look as described by you. I think some of it may well be tongue in cheek but even so why would anyone go along to ER if you were watching a club there to merely make up the numbers, perhaps it does explain why crowds are so poor.

A lot of it was tongue in cheek. I personally have ambition I also have ambition for Hibs. I'd like us to do the best we can but I don't expect European football every season even though I'd like it. History tells us we aren't that big a club or recent history I should say.

Is that what Jackpool Hibs drinks? 😁

I agree Trev, the home games are a must win.
2 leg ties can be won at home IMO hopefully
A lot of it was tongue in cheek. I personally have ambition I also have ambition for Hibs. I'd like us to do the best we can but I don't expect European football every season even though I'd like it. History tells us we aren't that big a club or recent history I should say.
I'll always go though as I love the club and no matter how good or bad I'll be there.
Good to know, I forgive you. I know for a lot of younger, I include you in that category, supporters it's hard to understand just how good Hibs were at certain times in their history. For instance I was working & living in England when Hibs played Leeds Utd at Elland Rd, Leeds at that time were the top dogs down there, to say Hibs played them off the park is an understatement, the tv commentators were absolutely drooling at the Hibs performance, to get to that level again, I agree probably not, but be ambitious & do the best we can should be our mission statement.

That's all we can do, aim high and hope to reach the goals we set. Sadly we haven't done well in the league this season and that's just not on. But by making two cup finals has also made it a good one l, well if we win the Scottish that is.
Going up will take away any pain of not finishing 2nd even though that could actually be a blessing but that remains to be seen. I'd rather win the league but deep down that was a very big ask and we've been inlucky losing key players too.
Let's hope come the end of May we are all celebrating together. 👍🏼

Hard to believe we'll win 3 two legged ties on that performance. That said, I'm planning to be at Starks Park on Wednesday.

We'be lost one in nine against Falkirk and Raith this season.
Doubt they'll be terrified of playing us, but we're the ones with the ability to win them if everything clicks. Can't imagine we'd be out of the tie or worse off than one down at anytime.

Ok, it was a bit laboured at times during the first half but I don't really share in all the negativity on here. We've seen all season that it is tough to break down packed defences and tbh I'd rather see Hibs go backwards, retain possession and try to get the opening at the right time than just lump it up the park.
We won comfortably today, created by far the most chances and took 2 of them. Our keeper barely had a save to make (because the defence played very well) and we at no point looked like losing a goal against a team that is not much worse (if at all) than Raith or Falkirk.
None of the three ties phase me in the slightest, all positions on the park are getting stronger at the right time and I'm looking forward to some good results over the next few weeks.

Think looking at stats etc and the stick Oxley has received I would suggest our 3rd place is down to the forward area of team.
Backed up by the league table, Sevco, Falkirk and us have all conceded 34. They have scored 88 and 61 respectively and we have scored 59.
I'm not Oxleys biggest fan but it's clear that it's the lack of goals scored more than anything he has been doing. He has got the blame for us losing points but if you compare how many goals were his fault vs how many sitters our players have missed it would be sobering reading, weve been due to give someone a hiding for a long time now but we squander loads of guilt edge chances.

Parents have to ration playstation time to 1 hour for every 4 hours playing football at the local park or eventually we will have a population of young men with highly evolved thumbs and tunnel vision.

If they score early they will probably spend the next 170 mins time wasting.

That's not as far fetched as it seems IMHO. If these teams know from past experience that referees will take no action on time wasting and play acting they will use every dirty trick in the book the get the result they want.
Can anyone tell me the last player ordered off for time wasting?

Oxley
Are you sure he was ordered off? He was yellow carded, but had to go off because of a problem with his contact lense.

I think he was yellowed for time wasting, in the refs opinion, but Stubbs recond he was trying to replace a contact lens. So officially think it was logged as time wasting.

Two yellows for time wasting I think. Hence the ban and Logan in goals for the semi.

Was Cummings red card for kicking the ball away against Hearts not time-wasting as far as the rules go?

Oxley was yellow carded in the cup replay against ICT for time wasting, having picked up a yellow card in the win against Hearts in the previous round. He then picked up an automatic ban for the semi-final against DU.
The point is that Oxley wasn't ordered off against ICT. He was replaced that night against ICT by Otso Virtanen because his vision was impaired due to the problem with his contact lense.

Completely agree far better to keep the ball and go the other side. It isn't easy to play against teams who sit in despite what some of the Mourinhos in the crowd think. We don't really have a long ball option unfortunately with Farid out. Thought some of the play was excellent and just missed the final ball in the first half. The impatience of the fans at times doesn't help.
