Is this the definition of knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing ...

Leicester City's finances could be even stronger if they don't win the Premier League according to Kieran Maguire, a specialist in sports finance from Liverpool University.

Finishing second would mean they wouldn't pay out as much in bonuses to the manager and players, but they would still cash in on being in the Champions League next season.

Leicester are seven points clear at the top of the table, with three games to play.

This clip is originally from Wake Up to Money on Friday 29 April 2016.

I'm sure if you asked anyone at Leicester they'd tell you what they'd rather :greengrin

On pure finances you can see what the guy is saying, but apparently we are not motivated by money only and prestige and winning is something the players, fans and anyone connected to the club will be able to enjoy for years upon years.

On another note is that Hibs become runners up in order to avoid paying bonuses? The cost of that I'll wager is much higher than paying winning bonuses.

'Wake Up To Money' is a programme title that makes me shake my head. It just seems to reflect the money obsessed world we live in: first thing we should do when we wake up, to the moment we go to sleep at night is think about money. It's no way to live, in my opinion.

My job involves listening to it first thing every morning.

It is NO way to live. You're right.

Was staggered to hear the manager had a £5million clause for winning the league in his contract. Nothing to do with the £5million, it's the fact he had the winning the league bit in it lol.

Does he? That's a clause Leicester must have felt certain would never be relevant.

The good thing about not paying bonuses is removing the fear of not paying bonuses apparently.

Whoever came up with that nonsense needs to take of his tweed suit and get outside and learn about life. There are certain things money can't buy. This story is one of them.

Arsenal have been doing this for years. The optimal place to finish in the English Premier League from a financial perspective is third or fourth. You are guaranteed a place in the Champions League group stages with third and a guarantee of a favourable playoff for the group stages with fourth.

To win the League or finish second requires spending much higher levels on transfer fees and wages. The prize money and TV fees are distributed evenly in the Premier League.

Also Edinburgh Monarchs speedway nearly went bust after winning the triple a couple of years back because of the cost of bonus payments to their riders.

They can now afford to pay their creditors from the time they were in administration.

It is £100k for every place above 17th and then also a bonus for actually winning the league. Ranieri said he always gets it put in his contracts. Fair play to him. And one bonus any club won't mind paying out.

£5m sounds a lot to us, but then you remember the money swilling about the English Premier League.

They are, marginally.

They went into admin, mainly due to ITV Digital themselves going into admin. They weren't the only ones...and, of course, many clubs got into heavy debt because of broken promises from TV companies.....us included.

In that light, they do have someone else to blame. Hearts and Rangers don't :)

With ITV Digital debts costing, on average, each football league club £2.6million ( I accept Leicester would receive an amount in excess of this) and leicester's debts being as much as £50million, it could be argued their paying non premiership players premiership wages was a significant factor in their demise.

Leicster winning the league would be priceless. Money is irrelevant, which is kind of the point they've proved.

Apparently Leicester were focused on inserting release clauses so they could get rid of Ranieri without a massive pay off if they looked like getting relegated.
