West Ham are playing so openly, pushing fullbacks up so far and leaving loads of space.

Rashford for United already looks a cut above any of his teammates.

Last man is not in the rule book! He denied a goal scoring opportunity which is in the rule book. Ref got it wrong.

Opinions eh? It should be a feel good story so it's a shame Atletico were a disgrace. Simeone is maser of the dark arts and, as usual, his side were everything that's bad about football. Barca have only themselves to blame for getting suckered into it though. Real Madrid will be delighted at this result!!

I have to say I seriously doubt that. Simeone is the master at whipping up the underdog, siege mentality. Whilst also being a great organiser and master of the dark arts-as I think someone previously mentioned.
Give him a blank cheque and free reign to build a free flowing, pleasant on the eye, all round nice team and I think he'd be knackered.
I'm not trying to do him down or take away from what Atleti have achieved - I just think he's found the perfect club for what he's good at .

Perhaps, but I doubt it. His team plays this way all the time, not just when up against the likes of Barca. And let's face it, Atleti are financially no minnows themselves!! I spend a lot of time in Madrid and over there his side is regarded as dirty, negative and cynical.

Good result for them. Really should be looking to beat an out of sorts Everton side in the semis and then it would be Crystal Palace or Watford in the final and they really ought to fancy their chances against either of them.

You don't win La Liga (as they did 2013/14) being the type of team you described. They are by no means tough on the eye and I have sat in their stadium watching them outplay Ronaldo et al in a Madrid derby last year. As far as dark arts go, I think Barcelona and Real have a fair bit of previous. :greengrin

I wish Hibs could compete with the ugly sisters like Atleti compete with Barca and real. Mind you, look at the list of strikers they have had. Costa, Aguero, Falcao, Torres, Villa.

Diego Simone, is there anyone who speaks better than him in world football?

I would look beyond the fact that we have reached a semi-final to values which are ever rarer in society,” Simeone said. “We can win or lose but we believe in the values life teaches you: respect, perseverance, the willingness to get up again, the ability to persist even against those more talented, to compete. I said to the players: you have great values as individuals and as a group. We never stopped believing.”

Spot on. I speak Spanish well and converse with a couple of Spanish guys who are real football fanatics. Atletico's ground is south of the river in the midst of a very working class area that has suffered a lot in recent years. Simeone is known as 'Cholo'-it also means half-bred or half cast in Spanish. His breed of football is known as 'Cholismo' and is defined as, especially the bit in bold 'One game at a time. Never give up. Concentrate on your own role. Die for your team mates. Effort is non-negotiable. This team is a unit and our strength lies within. You will get back even more than you put in.'

The Atleti 'lema' or motto embodies this and is 'Nunca dejes de creer' or Never stop believing (see photo) Simeone's talking is an extension of this and he often relates this and his teams philosophy to the average struggling Spaniard in the street(Employment around 25%)16400

In contrast 'chulo' in Spanish means cocky, good looking or brazen. Naturally Atleti supporters see Real and CR7 in particular as representing 'chulismo' as opposed to ''cholismo' and there are a number of parody web pages and a fair bit of banter re this
