While we all acknowledge the deaths of entertainers I would like to add the name of one of our most innovative Architects to the all too long list of stars to pass away this year.

Designer of the Transport Museum in Glasgow, The Olympic swimming centre in London and, most important for me, the Maggies Centre in Kirkcaldy https://www.maggiescentres.org/our-centres/maggies-fife/architecture-and-design/
Tragic loss.
She was way ahead of her time and it took years for her to actually build anything partially because she was so innovative and also because it took a while for the technology to catch up with her ideas and approach to considering space and form.
I'd like to highlight the Nordpark Cable Railway as an example.

The fact that, as an asian woman, she was hugely succesful in a very competitive, macho and often 'bitchy' (architects are the worst) world is an indication of her outstanding talent.

Some amazing buildings but I must ask, did the woman not own a ruler. People like her and Miralles must have devastated the brick making industry.

You have to be kidding!! Architects are the biggest bunch of effete middle class jessies going!!

If you've been in the company of architects speaking about other (absent) architects, you'll know what I mean about bitchiness.
The macho thing is in reference to the building game in general as well as the corporate clients that she managed to win over.

....and women don't do that?
Of course they do.
The point I was trying to make is it's definitely harder for women architects to "climb the ladder".
I've worked closely with around 20 architects over the past 30+ years, and out of them I would easily put 2 women in my top 5. However, the vast majority of 'known', successful architects are blokes. It's still very much a man's world.
