View Full Version : Eubank v Blackwell fight

Eubank v Blackwell. Don't really follow boxing but just caught a guy, present or former boxer, rooting for Blackwell in an interview and the same guy faffing around in the ring goading Eubank Snr. waving a belt in his face. Bit of a farce. Is boxing becoming the new wrestling in terms of the presentation?

Ps. Billy Joe Saunders was the guy doing the goading.

Billy joe Saunders is a current world champion, he's already beaten Eubank Jnr but they still have lots of niggle between the camps

Saunders said he didn't like or rate Eubank and that Blackwell would take him. He's got it wrong so far.

Eubank Snr. saying to his son that he can't understand why the ref hasn't stopped the fight.

I get the impression that if Eubank was fighting you or I that Saunders would have said the same thing, they really don't like each other haha

That is a massive swollen left eye.

Right decision by the ref.

Thought Eubank dominated but credit to the other boy for trying .

I said at the start that I don't follow boxing. Is Eubank unpopular because he's an arrogant barsteward like his old man? That aside, he looks quite handy. Took the other guy apart.

I watched the build up, dude looked the most unconfident out of any boxer I've ever seen during the walk up, IBF rankings appear to be mental

Did the guy collapse in the ring, seen him being taken away on a stretcher by the medics.

Now seems to be a worry about the guy.

Hope everything is okay with him.

Didn't collapse . They laid him down , gave him oxygen and off in a stretcher.
Doctor still with him in the dressing room. Boxing card put on hold for the meantime.

The two pundits seemed to think Blackwell was ok. They said he gave them the thumbs up as he was led away on the stretcher.

I think if Blackwell was okay then the next fight would have started by now, I also notice they are not showing any highlights of the fight.

He did take one hell of a lot of punches to the head, proves Eubank thasn't the power his old man had anyway or Blackwell would have been sparked out long before it was stopped.

Boxing now cancelled due to the well being of Blackwell, seems to be serious concerns about him, Eubank Senior maybe right that he was shouting at the ref to stop the fight a few rounds earlier, the guy was taking some heavy punches from Eubank.

The anaesthetist has left ringside to go with him so no other fights can start without him present

Towel should've been in at the end of the 6th, no way was he winning that fight after that round and was surprised they let it reach as far as it did.

Sad news and immediately makes you think of the Eubank snr v Watson fight, hopefully a better outcome for Blackwell. Brutal prolonged punishment he took for far too long.

Disgraceful refereeing to let things go on as long as they did.

Post Watson, Mclellan, Murray and others the well being of the fighters is supposed to be utmost in the referees mind. It wass obvious Blackwell was well beaten on the cards, he was taking a lot of punishment, had 2 or 3 noticeable injuries and was still taking shots. The fight should have been stopped at least 2 rounds earlier.

Agree that the fight should have been stopped sooner, but Blackwells corner should take most of the blame for it going on as long as it did. Although it was clear he wasn't winning the fight fairly early on - Blackwell was still defending and throwing back right to the end.

I switched over to this after the England game. Think it was about round 6 or so and Blackwell's face was covered in blood and seemed to be taking a pounding. I thought blood had to be cleared up immediately?

The ref didn't step in at all and didn't seem concerned at all despite all the blood and endless upper cuts.

It wasn't pretty viewing at all and I thought it should have been stopped within a minute of starting to watch it.

Agree his corner should have stopped it if the ref didn't.

It reminded me a bit of the De La Hoya v Pacquiao fight. One fighter was clearly taking a beating whilst still attempting to defend themselves and throw back, in that instance the ref stepped in after 6 rounds and stopped the fight.

It wasn't the eye that worried me it was the constant unanswered head punches he was taking.

Hmm. Blackwell was never down in the fight. Never touched down. Didn't stumble. There wasn't any point that he didn't have his guard up or wasn't able to throw punches. A hard guy putting everything on the line. Taking the punishment and plugging away in defense of his title. It would be a brave ref that stepped in early and took that away from him.

His own corner were best placed to pull him from the fight. The ref did his job.

There's a video doing the rounds of Eubank Snr after round 8 questioning why the ref isn't stopping it. He also tells Jnr to not leave it to the ref and finish it with body shots rather than hitting him on the head again.

Are you seriously denying the amount of relentless punches he took to the head? The guy was getting battered and regardless of his symptoms at the time it was too much, even Eubank Snr recognised that. It went too long and was needless, the ref was poor and should have had the balls to react earlier.

:agree: incredible that Eubank Snr was calm enough to spot the danger when the referee wasn't.

It was clearly heard when in the corner, Eubank senior was banging on the canvas with his hand telling the ref to stop the fight, he told his son you won't win the fight hitting him on the head, go for the body, I think Senior was worried about the amount of head punches and uppercuts Blackwell was taking, it was clear his nose was also broken.

Sad end to a great fight.

All reports seem to suggest that Blackwell is going to be ok, thankfully. It's doubtful if he'll ever box again though.

This situation is an example of MMA/UFC being safer than boxing as refs are very quick to stop a fight rather than allow someones brain to be repeatedly dunted with a padded glove.
