I wonder if Stubbs will put his faith in Virtanen and put a youth keeper on the bench or will he sign an experienced goalie on a short term loan deal?

Presumably Oxley is fit to play games so he has no chance to sign an emergency keeper for one cup game.

Youth on bench. No point signing keeper for one game to sit on bench

I presume he'll stick with Virtanen given that we let Reguero leave.

EDIT: Misread the original post!!!

Virtanen has played almost 90 1st team games including 65 in the Finnish top division. He's been signed with a view to playing in the 1st team.

If it's only for 1 game then it will be Brennan on the bench.

Virtanen needs a run in the team now then in build up for the semi. Be interesting to see if he gets it and can perhaps wrestle Oxley's spot away.

Alternatively he could be utter pish and show that we do need to sign a keeper on a free.

EDIT - Quick search suggests Reguero is still without a club.

Is he still a registered player? I'm sure he was a player coach when he first arrived he's always wanted to play for the Hibees haha

It's a tricky one.

I suspect we'll see him in one league game between now and the semi but I see no reason to drop Oxley out for any more games than necessary.

Think he needs more than 1 game to get comfortable with the team and playing once again. Also for us to find out if he can hack it at all with time to spare.

I think it'll depend how both our and Falkirk's league results go in the next couple of weeks. If there is still no margin for error I think Oxley will play right up to the semi. If Falkirk start to drop points then Virtanen might get a couple of games before the semi.

Virtanen gets game time without Oxley actually being dropped.

Frequently stand in keepers end up being the hero. On Sunday Ross County's stand in keeper had an excellent game, possibly even man of the match.

Everyone expects them to be nervous but they are probably fired up more than anyone else and desperate to grasp the opportunity.

Virtanen was signed with a view to replacing Oxley, given the length of his contract. Now's his time to prove he can be our #1 next season.

Came out for a cross into no man's land, never got there and the ball got cleared off the line

Maybe that is why Oxley stays on his line rather than coming for crosses?

Because he thinks he's going to make a hash of it?

Sorry, the modern goalie needs to command that area and occasionally take the pressure of the defence. Most goalies can routinely take crosses in most areas of the box. Oxley is a big guy- we need him attacking balls more often.

Sign a loan keeper for a one game suspension? No chance.
