Sitting at the bottom of the Championship and a very very slim (in fact I would say no chance except it is mathematically possible) chance of them staying up. Looks like the third tier of English football for them next season. In bigger financial trouble than both the cheats were up here and selling everything including their training ground.

I reckon Neil Lennon is mighty relieved to be out of Bolton but where next for him. Celtic?

I quite honestly don't care either before anybody asks. Just posting the facts.

No financial issues now the takeover was completed last week and tax bill paid. At least until next time. Easy bit of PR for the new owners to get rid of him. Talked a good game at the start but the results were terrible, tactics baffling and frittered away what precious little budget he had on a list of bizarre signings that he barely even picked to play.

Mentioned it on the Stubbs thread but inevitably Stubbs has cropped up in the early betting given he's an ex BWFC player. To say it would polarise opinion amongst the fans is a massive understatement though as he left the club under a massive cloud ("watch this space") and folk have long memories.

What's the story with how he left LH?

Out of his depth when he doesn't have 10x the budget of the opposition.

What's the story with how he left LH?

During the 95/96 season (Bolton's first season in the Premier League) there was a lot of speculation around the future of Stubbs and Jason McAteer right from Bruce Rioch leaving for Arsenal in the summer of 1995.

In one of our first games of the season we beat reigning champions Blackburn Rovers(!) 2-1 at Burnden Park with Stubbs scoring the second goal so inevitably we were the lead game on MOTD. The pair of them were interviewed after the game and grinned and giggled like a pair of school kids when asked about their future; "watch this space" replied Stubbs with a grin. McAteer was sold to Liverpool a couple of weeks later, but the Stubbs speculation dragged out all season until he was sold to Celtic in the summer of 96. Throughout the season Stubbs made no secret of telling the press that he wanted to leave for a top club; to be fair the pair of them both expected to go to Arsenal with Rioch, and then Stubbs expected SOMEBODY to come in for him.

Who has bought Bolton, and are they now safe from liquidation?

Sport Shield consortium headed by ex player Dean Holdsworth, they were £172m in debt but majority has been written off, Inland Revenue was main one to pay off.

Thanks. Seems he didnt cover himself in glory but as we know with the likes of Murray, KT and Deek, these things are usually quickly forgiven when played return.

Easily built up over the 10-15 years of losses and will become more common with the temptation of the increased TV money. Biggest issue was giving too much of a budget to Owen Coyle immediately after relegation from the Prem in the hope of getting promoted again. Slippery slope from there.

Is their future now secure?

Is their future now secure?

Would appear so until the new owners get bored, but I guess that's true of every club.

He couldn't have picked a more difficult job after leaving football's easiest job. I think he'll find a new job though as Deila is comparatively making him look like Sir Alex.

Lennon was working with his hands tied behind his back at Bolton, promised the earth just his predecessors were. Eddie Davies and Phil Gartside have ruined the club. They will be in the 3rd tier of English football shortly, I am sure many stories will unravel over the coming months/ years that won't make for pretty reading. I am certain they will be back in the **** in the not too distant future
