Exactly mate. Boyle for Thomson was the answer after 65-70 mins today

I don't think he was talking necessarily about today, I think he's talking about the squad and he's bang on

You're right in that I'm meaning more than just today. We have Carmichael who is rarely available and Boyle who is rarely selected.

This leaves us with little chances of changing the game.

Wish we played 3-5-2 with Boyle in the team...

At Easter Road we play...

I'm sure that need for both was mentioned on here last summer.

It's difficult after a loss like this especially with 20/20 hindsight but I was amazed to see Keatings come on. Thomson was clearly done but at that stage Boyle to stretch things and give us some presence out wide or Farid to win some of the balls we were pumping forward were the clear standout choices to change the game. Still scratching my head at what the expectation was with that one. No question as a team we have some really talented midfielders but we desperately need at least one that is comfortable out wide. We are so narrow streets times its unreal. Lewis is great defensively but I do feel he doesn't offer much going forward so we see very little of the ball attacking down our left and often get forced into a crowded middle

We've no spark, no flair, no way of unlocking a stubborn defence, plenty talented players but there's a balance issue throught the squad. We need a bit of creativity and guile in the final third.

Trying to walk the ball into the net has cost us all season, no urgency to get into the box unlike, dare I say, the rangers.

Horrible but very true.

It's like 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 all over again.

A lack of width and pace has been a problem for years.

4 CM in a midfield 4 never works

Stubbs got it completely wrong, just hope the boys get their heads together for Wednesday

Unfortunately Stubbs has done nothing yet
We need promotion badly
A third year in Championship is unthinkable

Yup. Or hearts. We NEED a couple of players in the mould of walker or Nicholson.

We made three times as many chances as Ross county. Supply isn't the problem.

Type of supply is though, too many half chances and blocked shots, not enough variation, we're too obvious in the way we play.

Unfortunately this is true.
We have made quite remarkable progress under Stubbs. We have played some great football, won some great games, been to a cup final, BUT, should we fail to gain promotion I'm afraid to say this can only fall on one person. I can't help but think that the moves made during the January window were very much not needed. Ok it was, and always will be, a bit of a gamble bringing back a player like Stokes, but to have let Dom go, infuriating as he could be at times, was very naive IMHO. We weren't broke, so why fix it? Bringing in a wider player, or two would have given us more options surely??

That is a very misleading statistic, and I have to disagree with you. It is the quality of the supply that IS the problem. We made three times as many chances? What we were these chances - or were they really half chances? First half we were better for sure, but second half we really struggled to create good chances. We need to create more chances of the like that Cummings scored vs Hearts - i.e. hard to miss. Most of the 'chances' we create require a talented out of the box finisher to pull something special out the bag. And as for headers, we have no one in the side with any ability in that regard.

No doubt about it if we had someone pull something out the bag like McGinn did vs St Johnstone we could win yesterdays game, but we lack a plan up front. We needed to make Ross County panic with all of our possession. We needed to drive into their box to draw challenges, we needed to provide an iota of threat from the umpteen corners we had. I think the players gave their all but they need some strategy and guidance, the talent (apart from the out the box shooting) in the side is very good.

Lack of clean sheets are our problem right now. Terrible defending, leaving ourselves far far too open when we lose the ball high up the pitch.

There's only one solution too, and that's Fyvie, Dylan and Hanlon.

I remember asking Pat Fenlon at a fans meeting after THAT final whether he felt our squad lacked pace and width. He agreed and said it was something they were looking for.

Nearly 4 years and 2 other managers later, I'm still waiting.
