See great author Umberto Eco died today as did the author of a great novel, Harper Lee.

Personally, I thought To Kill a Mockingbird was good but a bit dated.

You mean in the sense that The Name of The Rose was 'a bit dated'? It was set in the 1930s, so that's sort of to be expected.

In that sense, Shakespeare would be outdated, so, no!! In the sense that the way the themes are articulated had specific relevance at the times but had failed to be enduring. As such, it felt of historical documentary interest.

Read about Harper Lee's death online last night. Didn't know Eco had died; haven't read anything by him.

These cold winters always carry a few authors off.
