As the beloved leaders of our game sit on their hands and make the usual platitudes about crowd trouble, sectarian songs etc, perhaps they could take a lesson from the Greek F.A. when it comes to doling out punishments.......

Panathinaikos accused Greece's deputy sports minister Stavros Kontonis of strengthening "a corrupt system" on Tuesday after the government ordered the partial closure of the club's stadium as a further punishment for crowd violence.
Kontonis' ministry announced that Panathinaikos' famous Gate 13 area of their Apostolos Nikolaidis stadium – occupied by around 5,000 of the club's most fervent supporters – as well as nearby Gate 14, would be closed for the remainder of the regular season. The club was also fined 90,000 euros.

The decision was part of a state report on the crowd trouble which caused the Athens derby against Olympiakos Piraeus to be called off last November.

The Super League match was called off before kickoff due to crowd trouble inside and outside the stadium which resulted in three police officers being taken to hospital.

Panathinaikos had already been deducted three points, forfeited the match with a 0-3 scoreline, received a four-match supporter ban and been fined 190,000 euros by league authorities.

"The new punishment imposed by the deputy sports minister is unprecedented worldwide and is in fact predatory," the club said in a statement.
"Unfortunately, Panathinaikos believed in last year's statements from Mr Kontonis about restoring the credibility of the long-suffering football scene, but as it turns out, he is anything but interested in that, instead reinforcing the operations of the corrupt system."
Panathinaikos added in the statement that the club would launch an appeal to "each and every competent body of the justice system in order to overturn this highly illegal decision".
Panathinaikos is currently fourth in the Greek championship, 20 points adrift of leader and fierce rival Olympiakos after 18 matches.

This will lead to Greece being suspend from FIFA as they don't allow Government interference into football.

This will lead to Greece being suspend from FIFA as they don't allow Government interference into football.

It's a strange one but when their Football Association has done all it can and the fans still can't respect the law then regardless of FIFA's interference rules the government has a right to defend it's citizens and police.
Is there more to it than that, is there some kind of agenda reinforcing these corruption claims? No idea. But FIFA aren't gonna make much noise about it in light of their own corruption riddled governance.

FIFAs rules about government interference make sense in as much as stopping governments having influence over the day to day running of football.

When football leads to violence in the streets with policemen ending up in hospital as a result, any government has a right to tell FIFA to butt out and will do so in a heartbeat. It looks like the Greek government have reached that stage.

As for our government ..... It looks like they might have to get involved if the spineless goons running our game don't grow a backbone soon.

I'm sure the Greeks could tell FIFA a thing or two about corruption. The big clubs in Greece are owned by oligarchs who don't give a damn about rules and regulations - in the past it's been alleged they have paid fans to riot, bribed refs, govt officials and even as far as threatening to kill family members. Oh, they've given up trying to stop people with flares.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piPrkoQFVqo

Think it's always been a pretty tense affair, but now with the financial plight, high unemployment and all the rest of it, tense can turn to violent pretty quick.

Panathinaikos are the establishment team who play in the Greek capital of Athens. Olympiakos play in Piraeus which is the harbour suburb of Athens. Remind you of a similar set up closer to home ? :agree:
