Gobsmacked! This guy truly encapsulates the word "Legend". RIP David Bowie, thanks for the musical accompaniment to my life.

Bit of a scunner on a Monday morning. Fantastic artist.
Bit of a shock. I think I read he had heart problems which had stopped him performing live.

Not what took him though. 18 month battle with the big c.
Tough few months for music, lemmy now bowie.

It's very difficult to articulate words worthy of the man. To him, beauty was an effortless creation:
'In this age of grand illusion
You walked into my life
Out of my dreams
Sweet name, you're born once again for me'
from Word on a Wing.
RIP David.

My radio had broken this morning so woke up to a text that he had gone - he was the reason I started to write music. Absolutely gutted about the news.

He actually did more for gay rights than he gets credit for. For our generation, he cemented the idea that "it's okay to be gay".

Very true.
What a fantastic time it was back in 72-73, Bowie, T.Rex and Turnbull's Tornadoes :greengrin

In addition to his work with gay rights, he was also one of the first in the public eye to really challenge gender conformity. A man well ahead of his time.
I can't confess to being a fan of the music for the most part but his cultural legacy, icon and contribution to modern pop-culture is unparalleled.

A brilliant artist and almost a genre on his own.
There's a starman now waiting in the sky
He came down to meet us
And I think he blew our minds
There's a starman now waiting in the sky
He told us not to blow it
Cause he knew it was worthwhile.
He told me. I was one of the children and I boogied. ;-)

Been dreading this day for a while now. Bowie was a real inspiration to not only countless musicians but he opened peoples' minds.
Just be yourself! Then punk added to that. His latest brilliant album shows he still had the magic despite being seriously ill.
Lyric on new album: 'Where the f*** did Monday go?" I sure have that feeling today!

Grew up listening to Bowie.
Planned to crack open the vino and have a wee night listening to the LP's stored in the attic, purloined from my sister decades ago :embarrass, only to remember that I chucked out the record player a couple of years ago as it was looking a bit foosty. Shambles.
Bryan Burnett is doing a grand job on Radio Scotland sending the great man off tho.

Most folk who like Bowie have their favourite era. His Berlin period albums are a real favourite of mine. Low, Heroes, Lodger more so than the earlier glam stuff.
I enjoyed The Next Day as well, thought it was very good.
BlackStar is sitting unopened in the cellophane, don't have the heart to listen to it yet as it was essentially him saying goodbye.
I'll miss him and his music greatly.

An organist whose musical tribute to David Bowie at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Museum (https://www.facebook.com/gordon.wilson.921/videos/10203940174905208/?pnref=story) went viral said he felt "overwhelmed" by the response.

I used to love Bowie from the start but lost touch after Let's Dance. Station To Station was my favourite.
Since the sad news I've been catching up on his later albums.

David Bowie Will NOT Be Having A Funeral. This Has Left People In Tears
David Bowie decided before he passed away on Sunday night that he wanted to go “without any fuss”. Thousands of fans have been in mourning since finding the news out on Monday morning. He was cremated secretly shortly after he died without a funeral or and friends or family there.
“You don’t need a funeral or memorial for David. You have his music.”

Pretty sure that cremation is not cool in islam so that can't be the reason. Plus she's not exactly an ayatollah herself.

That's a tradition throughout the Middle East among all religions. More to do with the heat and flies than anything else.

Had no idea he was ill. Wasn't a huge fan of his music but he did a lot of good work to try and improve the industry (blasting MTV for not playing music videos for example.)
Blackstar is a good album too, shame it's his last.

Rock star David Bowie left an estate valued at about $100m (£70m), according to his will which has been filed in New York.
i wouldn't mind having a share in the copyrights of his music

I'm a pretty big Bowie fan and I like Beck too ( his Usher Halls gig a few years back was excellent) Sound and Vision is probably my favourite Bowie tune ( maybe kooks or Bombers or Young Americans, I dunno!)
Anyway, I only discovered this after Bowie died and I think it might be the best live piece of music I've ever heard...listen thru headphones:

I'm sure he cashed in his catalogue a number of years ago, possibly around the time Apple were buying everything up.
