Is that the corner of seafield road East and kings road? Which would mean the bus depot is now on the sight of the old stadium/ground?

Maybe a little off on a tangent but I always try and identify the grounds teams down south use to play in, mainly because so many have moved to new stadiums.
For instance, Arsenal, Derby, Stoke, Sunderland, Bolton, Leicester, Cardiff, Middlesburgh, etc etc quite good fun.

Correct on both, think I read Hibs and Hearts both played there when Leith Athletic were there. Hibs also had a ground themselves next to where Peirshill cemetery is now.

Cool. Tried to upload the modern day image of the same area pictured from Google earth... But alas technology got the better of me.

Nene Park is a really nice abandoned ground (since 2012). It's still standing, but I think it's scheduled to be demolished soon.

Take a look: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Nene+Park&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiI3PGbzpjKAhUF_SwKHbA4DOYQ_AUICCgC&biw=1920&bih=979

here's a good find, apparently they used to use the building as a piggery back in the 1800's

i believe it's the oldest piggery building in the world still in use, it even has air vents in different locations on the roof

Great pic that. I was a regular attendee on a Fri night for the speedway as a youngster good crowds as well. The bridge at the Water of Leith my unorthodox entry point 😉
Selling papers on a Tues/Thurs night once a bit older too. Leith Walk & Broughton St pubs with the dogs a big bonus midweek for the pocket money 😄
Not to mention serving my apprenticeship in Beaverhall Rd
Cheers for that 👍

Some stuff about it here, including maps. If you look at a current aerial pic, the ground is partly now a car park.

*Sigh* I do miss these ancient structures, highly dangerous as they were. What I'd give to turn the clock back and be able to see one again.

What? Saturday 30th of January, you say?

Plans were drawn up for a Hibs stadium where the newish flats are on Northfield Broadway (where Bruce Anchor & CDW used to be) but it didn't go beyond the planning stage.

Sounds like it got a bit beyond that, but never got played in though!-

Hibayernian-

Just a bit of history on the Northfield site......

In the early 1900s, Hibs were having some success, Scottish Cup in 1902 and the League in 1903. This lead to a desire at Hibs to either increase the capacity of ER or move elsewhere. Because of the ER slope, the decision was taken to move and some land at Northfield leased.

Hibs put a considerable sum of money into developing a new stadium (seen in the photos in previous posts) but were undermined by the North British Railway Company, who decided they needed the land for a Railway 'Spur'. The council took the Railway's side in the matter and Hibs never played in the Stadium they had spent so much money on (incidentally, the capacity was estimated at 50k but overestimation was typical in those days and it was probably in the region of 30-35k).

Hibs suffered incredibly from the wasted outlay and took years to recover. The NB Railway company never actually built the 'spur', so Hibs lost the Stadium for nothing. The site was eventually used for amateur games and (I think) rugby matches. Part of the land is now the Cemetery.

[The above is my recollection from a book called The Easter Road Story (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hibernian-The-Easter-Road-Story/dp/0859764265), which I have now sadly lost ]

I used to work in the RBS Building at the bottom of Dundas St and corner of Royal Crescent, parking in the car park at the rear of the building. This is where this stadium stood. there is a gate on Royal Cres, with a path leading down into the flattened area below, now covered in concrete. This path was the entrance to the stand.

Yes if you look on google earth with the map overlay, half the ground is still there with burials all over half the pitch.

Still standing you say? I hope it's got a proper fire safety certificate. It might only be a piggery but pigs have rights too.

What's the reddish brown colour about? Is it rust or pig ****?

That stadium got well past the planning stage and was wholly built. The council/corporation struck a deal so that a corner was to have a railway line built through and a compulsory purchase order was pput through for that part of the land. Hibs never played a game in the stadium but no railway was ever built.

Sounds like Council antipathy towards Hibs isnt a new thing.
