As the title says and not reopening as a hotel according to their Facebook page. Many a party, wedding and funeral reception attended there. Anyone know what's happening to it? Seems strange given all the new hotels opening in Edinburgh.

I'd guess it would have required a fortune spent on it to bring it back up to standard, it had become really tired in recent years.
It's one of those hotels that falls into a strange category. Not budget but not good enough to really push on either. The fact there are so many fantastic B&Bs and guest houses in the surrounding area as well as the new Ibis not a million miles away probably didn't help either.
Had my wedding reception, Rolls Royce, Piper etc at the Minto hotel 26 years ago, sad to hear of its closure 😢
i was at a party there once, just realised it nearly 19 years ago....jeez, how did that happen?! What a sobering thought :greengrin

There used to be a hotel called the FBI down that way at one time. What did it stand for?

Sold for £8m and the new owner is turning it into flats and staff made redundant.
Sad to see it go. Many great family occasions held there over the years..

Was it not an old Charlie McKinlay place ? Terrible track history - never seemed to have fire extinguishers !

She may have moved on recently but up until about 3 months ago she was definitely still in the hotel trade.

Tbh I think being nasty and unpopular is a bit of requirement to get on in the hotel game. An unwillimgness to accept people may have a life outside work and the ability to talk a good game probably helps as well.

After spending 10 years at the Caley as the Security Manager I can confirm you have hit the nail firmly on the head PB :-)
