Brilliant, how did we pull that one out of the bag? Was it £150k fee?

Hope there was a clause in there for a free to Hibs at the end of it.

Even at 30/31 he will do a job for us.

Such a pity.

Signing a five year deal and staying five years are more often than not, not quite the same thing.

The guy seems to have buckled down and matured into an even better striker than the one we so enjoyed watching at Easter Road. This will probably be a contract that will set him up very nicely financially, and while he has had some embarrassing and unfortunate times off the pitch, it looks like he has learnt from it and now finds himself an important player for Celtic. Good luck to the guy.

Not in the same class as James Collins!

Still people will insist he is a massive Hibby and would/will return anytime now.

What's the issue ? The boy is a Hibs fan doing well at another club, so well that he's signed a new contract. Massive Hibby fan moves on with his career, there is no other story.

The first part of your post is accurate. Leigh is still a Hibee who continues to attend our games when he can. Wish we had more fans like him. Good luck to him.

Wish him well.

Unfortunate that we cannot match his wages/ambitions, but hope he does well

No ambition then

He went down to wolves, gave it a try, it didn't work out and he came back.

Signing a 5 yr deal at Celtic isn't lacking ambition, he's securing his own future financially.

It's also Celtic ensuring that they get a decent fee should he move on.

What if he decided he didn't want to try his luck down south again and his time at Parkhead turned sour?

I've no issue with Griffiths playing for Celtic and signing a new contract. I'm sure it's great for him.

I also appreciate that he's a Hibs fan who still comes to games when he can, despite some badge-kissing at Celtic.

But the next time he costs us points or a place in a cup, I'm going to blame everyone wishing him good luck.

Just to throw the cat in with the pigeons but.......see the last time we were ment to be getting him on loan and every man and his dug thought it was a done deal (including the celtic chairman) was it not Leigh himself who knocked it back at the last minute?
So, in other words, he could have played for us and still picked up the big wages.

Hibs couldn't afford him, he would have had to take a drop of about £20k p/m if he made the move. Don't blame him for not coming, it's a short career.

DH1875 is talking about a loan deal, where Celtic would still have been paying his wages.

Not all loans work like that. That was not the deal on the table and Hibs couldn't afford the asking wages and bonuses that were required to take him to ER.

It was a done deal and the clubs had agreed everything. It was Leigh who knocked it back as he wanted to prove he could make it. Turns out he was right as he's now their number 1 striker and he has just got a new 5 year deal on even more money.

Good deal for both Leigh and Celtic, Leigh will be getting extra money in his pocket and Celtic tie him to a longer deal, which will ensure they get a decent fee for him should anyone come in with a bid for him

No ambition shouts make me cringe.
Lets see he's earning ?? 5-10K ?? per week, regular European football, and gets to win things. Anyway, who gives a bovril whether he has ambition or not. Is it some kind of crime?

:agree: His ambition seems to be to stay in Scotland, closer to Edinburgh. Maybe he put that first and then maximised his football income by playing for celtc, Cant blame him for it as Scottish football currently stands but I have no doubt he could do better down south if he wanted to. Signing a five year deal doesn't rule that out if celtc want to sell him / the right move comes up.
