Season 1998-99

The club started the season with a new Chairman in charge, Tom O’Malley, Tom took over from Lex Gold.

25th July, the new North Stand, later called the Famous Five Stand opened with a pre-season game against Barnsley, Hibs lost 1-0.

4th August, the first game of the season was a mid-week visit to Cappielow to play Greenock Morton. Barry Lavety netted the game’s only goal late on to ensure Hibs got off to a winning start.

February, McLeish signs former Champions League winner and French Internationalist Franck Sauzée.

3rd April, Hibs won the 1st Division with a win at Firhill in front of an expectant travelling support, and with 5 games still to be played. The opposition was Hamilton Academical who had been groundsharing at the time. The league was won by a record number of points, 89, 23 ahead of second placed Falkirk. They only lost 3 league games all season and undertook an undefeated run that lasted from 12th September until the 13th March.
