Currently reading on the BBC news website that Arnold Peralta, former defender for Rangers, has been murdered (shot) back in his hometown of Honduras.

He was recently called up to his national side for a friendly against Cuba. Also recently became a father at just 26!

Wasn't Claros also a victim of gun violence back in Honduras?

Yeah, sure he was. Putting aside rivalry, sad news!

Drive by shooting I heard on the news, no items taken so wasn't a robbery. Very sad to hear this, and i hope its not somthing as trivial as a pish game the week before as the motive.

And yes, Claros was shot in the head a year or so before joining hibs

Is it not one of the most dangerous/violent places on the planet? Seem to remember of featuring in the top 5-10

IIRC it has the highest murder rate per capita in the world or it's certainly in the top 3 places on earth. This was a few years ago I seen this though. RIP

There was a programme on telly recently about the routine murders of hundreds of women by jealous/scorned partners. I think this was it :

RIP. What a complete waste of life, the disregard for life in these countries is beyond comprehension. Honduras is indeed the most violent place on the planet according to various stats, up top there with Jamaica, Venezuala, Guatemala and the like. Shocking.

Honduras has some great scuba diving resorts which are on the relatively safe island of Roatan and it is possible to fly directly. Cocoview Resort (http://www.cocoviewresort.com) is like a dive camp for adults where it is easy to do 4 or 5 dives per day from boat and shore. We didn't even lock the door of our overwater bungalow. I wouldn't hang around drinking in the local town late at night though. The local lads working at the resort kicked a ball around at lunchtime and were happy to chat with a Hibby about Jorge Claros.

Absolutely awful news.

Not wishing to be disrespectful by mentioning a footballing mistake, but my primary memory of him during his time at Rangers is the error he made in the leadup to Jason's goal at Ibrox last September. It's chilling that somebody we've all seen play, and have recent football memories of, has met a horrible end at such a young age.

RIP

My mate is there now diving. His pictures look amazing!
RIP to this guy. A very dangerous country by all accounts. I remember wee Claros basically refusing to go back to his parent club after his loan with us. Quite right since he had already been shot in the face ffs
