Season 1984-85



5th August, Jackie McNamara was awarded at testimonial; Hibs played Newcastle United with the Magpies winning 3-0.

5th September, after a 3-2 home defeat to newly promoted Dumbarton, Stanton was still disillusioned and resigned.

September, John Blackley was appointed caretaker manager. He was later offered the job on a permanent basis.

Blackley signed 18 years old Gordon Durie from East Fife.

January, Hibs were five points adrift of Dumbarton at the foot of the league.

12th January, after only two wins in seventeen matches, Hibs beat Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox. The following week they beat Dumbarton 3-1.

6th April, Willie Irvine scored Hibs 5,000th league goal in a 2-0 win at Boghead against Dumbarton.

May, Hibs win another five league matches, including Celtic and Dumbarton away and Rangers at home on the last days of the season. Hibs remained in the Scottish Premier Division.
