You'd expect to find this headline as a post on Follow Follow, not a supposedly impartial Newspaper

I'm not going to click the link, but are you sure it's not an article from the fan column?

Nope, it's a 'news' article.

Strangely enough, no writer's name is attributed.

In Rangers defence, kind of, it's slightly less hypocritical than our neighbours.

A few Rangers fans groups came together and raised some money to pay to some of the small businesses on their creditors list at the time of liquidation.

Whilst it hardly puts them in any kind of position of moral authority it was a decent thing to do. Hearts fans bleat away about paying a living wage whilst treating the charities and businesses they bumped as something to be laughed and joked about.

A great move by Rangers and well done the Record for reporting it. It's shameful that all clubs don't pay the living wage

A good move by Rangers that should be reported however as per pish reporting from the Record turning an issue like this into a them v us type thing.

Something i'd like to say happen at ER. If we can pay players and board members thousands per week i'd like to think we can pay an extra quid an hour to all other members of staff.

On a side-note i seen a live tweet a week ago from Celtics AGM. Something like 3.01% voted yes to implementing a living wage at Celtic Park. Good old left wing socialists that they are - "More than a club..." Away to f....

My daughter works part time for Celtic. No idea what the living wage is but she gets paid £7.20 an hour. I thought that was pretty good because she's only 16.

I find the issue of scoring points by paying peanuts instead of a pittance and screaming it loudly from the rooftops quite pathetic and distasteful. Fine if they want to do their best for their employees but for God's sake just do it and don't expect to be patted on the head for it.

This story is good enough to stand on its' own merits. That there is a Celtc backdrop brought in to flesh the story out is an editorial comment to make a point to align the article to the newspaper narrative . Surely more honest if it appeared in the leader column instead. ?

Fair play to any team who did / does this, it allows working individuals a set wage that they need to live.

However ( this is the sceptic in me now ) are The newest team in Scotland doing this and allowing it to be broadcasted in the paper to hide something they wanted painted over or hidden.

I praise any team with the foresight to do this, but for some reason I believe there are underlying issues this is papering over.

Can I just remind you that the DR had the following in it's headline.

Rangers give Celtic the ultimate beamer

It's the story not the headline that counts. I don't care about the point scoring between the ugly sisters I'm delighted that low paid workers will see a rise in their pay

It wouldn't take much to track down (can't be bothered) but I'm sure the Celtic Chair said their staff got currently what was the LW and that they were 6 months away from the next rise. In between times the numbers were raised when Osbourne tried killing the Tax Credits.... But that's not my point. I'd like to know the numbers. How many are staff and how many are agency workers paid by say G4S. Rangers claiming this and only the Record picked this up - that headline was on FB by about 9:00 yesterday - could mean only 3 employees benefit.

That's actually why I'd be interested in Hibs statement before the AGM. How many folk would be affected and from that we can work out the finanical impact.

Anything that should be in the papers about pending court cases, title stripping, needing x amount of pounds to last to end of the season, ( possibly ) having to sell players manager second favourite in bookies odds for Fulham job. Hibs catching them up. Pick anyone two or three of above.

For me The rangers are trying to look like they are a very nice team and we all know that for years they mugged everyone off they could.

Can I just add to my last post above,

I still think it's great that any team paying this wage needs credit where credit is due.

That turned out to be the case at the PBS, when it was exposed (and quickly hushed up) that only people directly employed by the Yams would benefit and there were very few of those.

I'd be in favour of it at Easter Road if it was done properly, with sub-contracted staff (eg catering, security) receiving the living wage for their work for us.

Read a proper newspaper. Let the Rangers fans buy the rag that's targeted towards an eight year old's reading ability.

It is simple point scoring and self aggrandisement. A mere token gesture as I doubt there will be anybody at the bottom end of the pay scale at these clubs actually trying to live off these wages, and more likely to be youngsters earning some decent pocket money working part time match to match.

As others have pointed out, if Rangers, Celtic, Hearts or whoever wants to pay the living wage, then great, but don`t just do it to tell us all how great you are.

The DR is a ****ty daily magazine, it can hardly be called a newspaper, In that respect it is also a cheerleader for both halves of the Old Firm as that's the only way it can arrest its dramatically falling readership, the sooner it's gone the better....

Leaving aside my original point, which was the headline being a childish pop at their rivals in the manner of a Rangers Fanzine, it's occurred to me that making the announcement of paying the 'Living Wage' is a very nice distraction for the Press to concentrate on when they could be doing actual journalism...

...like questioning the current state of Rangers Finances, or where the Glib and Shameless Liar's promised £30M investment has dissappeared to.

Dave King was on the Board at Rangers for, what, 8 years under SDM, and he'd never heard of the minimum wage?
