15th April, after a 5-0 defeat to Celtic in semi-final of the Scottish Cup, Turnbull parted company with the club. Eddie had managed Hibs for 467 competitive games; they won 227, drew 113 and lost 127.

After being sacked as manager of Hearts, Willie Ormond had joined Eddie Turnbull as his assistant in the February. On Turnbull’s departure, Ormond was appointed manager. There had been two other candidates, Pat Stanton, who had recently left his job as assistant manager to Alex Ferguson at Aberdeen and Peter Cormack who had retired from playing in March but who had retained a coaching post at the club.
