Season 1964-65



2nd September, Stein won his first trophy with Hibs when they lifted the Summer Cup after beating Aberdeen 3-1, with goals from Hamilton, Scott and Cormack. The final had gone to a replay after a first and second legs ended in 4-4 aggregate result. The final was delayed due to the outbreak of typhoid in Aberdeen.

6th March, Stein had Hibs as serious contenders for the league and had beaten Rangers 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

9th March, Stein resigned to take over as manager of Celtic. Stein managed Hibs for 52 games, 51 competitive, won 31, lost 12 and drew 8. The non-competitive game was a challenge match against Real Madrid which Hibs won 2-0, goals coming from Peter Cormack and an own-goal from Zoco.

Hibs appointed Bob Shankly as manger.

27th March, Hibs lost the Cup semi-final 2-0 to Dunfermline.

17th April, Hibs ended up 4th in League.

June, Hibs undertook a post-season tour Canada.

this was the year kilmarnock won the title on goal difference, they had 50 points so we finished 4 points behind

Who was it finished 2nd again? :wink: That was also the last season we beat Oldco 3 times until we did it to Sevco last season!

Remember the Sumer Cup Final well.

Unfortunately it was played midweek at Pittodrie on a school day and I couldn't get a leave pass from Leith Academy to attend :confused:

Sure it was goal average ET . The muppets complained about goal average and it were changed to goal difference . If it had stayed goal average , they would have won the league in 86 . Wee shame :-)

yes your right it was goal average then it got changed and they lost it on goal difference in 86
