Anybody ever started their own business? Any good links for advice?

Business Gateway can be good.

Get yourself a decent accountant as well. One that is a similar size to you, as s/he will be well acquainted with the issues you're likely to face.

A wee bit more info might be helpful:

How far have you got, what's lead you to this, what kind of business etc..

Might flash out a bit more specific advice.

Honestly not got far at all, just something if been wanting to do for a while, without any real time put into it

It would be a general building/contracting company

Start small having really just myself and a van and trying to progress from there
Whether that means I would just register as self employed or go through all the proper channels I'm unsure

Thanks for the reply

Registering as self employed is one of those "proper channels ". That's the kind of chat you need to have.

This guy is a Hibby, I can't remember his .Net name, but in the same line of business so might be worth contacting to get the inside info.

His website has more different skills than when I asked him to do some work for me so he is obviously successfully growing.
