View Full Version : Proposed parking changes - would affect match day parking

The council has proposed changes to the parking restrictions in town. One of the proposals takes in the top of Leith and making it pay and display on a Saturday, Sunday and late into the night (9.30 is one time they've suggested). It would affect you if you drive to matches (it's said to try and help local residents, but I don't think they've taken into account that people would just move elsewhere and cause another set of residents problems).

Please fill in the survey to give the council your opinion.

When they moved the parking zones into Hillside it just pushed the problem further out. This is nothing more than a revenue generator. Wonder how close this cordon is to the rejected congestion boundaries. Not everyone can walk / take the bus (how extortionate is it to take your family into town)?

With the roadworks at Abbey Mount and Broughton/Leith Street plus Queens Park being closed on Sundays they're obviously trying to cut Easter Road off.I suspect a Council/Hearts/BBC plot to keep us down.

Some people would suggest paranoia, but it seems perfectly plausible to me.
They'll shut Smokey Brae next.

I always laugh when I hear these stupid proposals from our so called environmentally friendly council. They keep closing off roads and making it harder for people to get around town in an attempt to stop people using their car. The reality is people still take their car and drive further to get where they want to go, causing more pollution. Council=idiots.

£8.50 family day ticket, 2 adults 3 kids and as many buses and trams as you can jump on.

Is it just my phone or is the council's logo really maroon coloured?

Suspect this is purely a means of generating money to plug the massive black hole in Edinburgh Cooncils finances.

Easter Road must be one of the easiest stadiums I have ever been to for on street parking. I park with no problem less than 10 minutes from my seat in the West, long may it continue.

I wonder if the Yams still get their free parking from the council?

I like parking in a VIP lot just across from an entry gate and as a season ticket member, getting in 15 minutes before they open to the public. Walk through the empty stadium and down an elevator to the lounge for free food and drinks. Watch the players pass the lounge on the way down the tunnel to warm up. Go out and watch them from the pitch side then sneak back in to top up the plastic wine cup and fill another with ice water. Go out and watch the game and nip back in for a refill at half time. Hang around after the game for a drink or two and miss the traffic then have a nice quiet trip home. It will take a while before the MLS discovers how to treat season ticket holders properly. :greengrin

I'm not certain but I thought the law was that they can only recover their costs in charges. That said, they seem to manage to charge £100+ in parts of suburban London for a permit. Someone must have build a little empire on that!

Out of curiosity, how did you hear about this consultation?

I remember hearing that the 20mph speed limit proposal had been to a public consultation.... Has me questioning how the council expect to get a decent sample, how do people actually get visibility of their daft plans?

But the plans were on display…”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.

Hahaha.

It's an extract from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

The protagonist finds out there is due to be a bypass built that involves his house being demolished.

Thought it was relevant to the thread!

Someone should set up a website or social media account alerting people to these...."Cooncill Consultation Watch"

And how often do the police stop you for drink driving?

In the area I live I pay for a parking permit and if I'm home any later than about 8pm I end up having to park literaly at least a 5 minute walk from my front door. It's absolutely ridiculous, if there's not enough spaces for the permits that people are paying for they should be done away with in that area.

My wife drinks very rarely and has the season ticket right next to me. :greengrin
