I had a request from a friend regarding information on his Granpa's Granpa. The guy's name was Thomas Lang and he was involved with Hibs during their period of reforming in the early years. Apparently he was on the same board that the Farmer family were on around that time and appeared in photos of the cup win etc. He was also given the title of Honorary Groundskeeper which was very prestigious at that time. I will ask my friend for more detail if what I have given is too little.

Any info or direction will be gratefully received.

Thomas Lang was a Committee Member of the reformed Hibernian FC from 1893 to at least 1895.

I'm currently at work and will check for further details tonight.

On a similar note I was surprised to find out recently that 'Judge' Murphy, an important figure for Hibs in the 19thC is the Great-grandfather of a relative of mine. Having looked into it online for them he seems to have been a character.

What may be interesting to Hibs historians is that he ended up in Fauldhouse. All the other RCs there were Celtic fans but 'Judge' made sure his son and grandson went east to watch Hibs every second week.

Thomas was involved in the initial meetings to resuscitate Hibernian FC and donated 1 pound during the 2nd Meeting in March 1892.

He was first elected to the Hibernian FC Committee on 12 September 1892 when his address was 257 Cowgate

My last record of him on the Committee is from 2 April 1896

You may be more surprised that James Murphy was also Dan McMichael's Brother in Law and was most likely responsible for bringing him to Edinburgh where he initially shared with James Murphy and his Father.

James "Judge" Murphy was so called because he wore a wig

That, I didn't know
