I recently received a new TSB VISA debit card as my last one was split along the magnetic strip. Anyway it arrived with a different set of 16 numbers.

I never thought anything about it until I got a text saying my direct debit on my mobile phone remained unpaid for last month because they were unable to debit my account.

Does a different set of 16 numbers on a new card mean I need to set up mandates again on my direct debits?

The account number and sort code is still the same.

no it won't affect your dd's and mandates - but it would affect any online payment subscriptions you have used that card for...

Thanks. So why did it affect my Tesco mobile phone direct debit?

If it was set up in a shop they may have used your debit card number - Any debit that is based on your card number will be affected . Those based on your account number will not

Hope that clarity helps

These will not be linked as debit card transactions are a guaranteed method of payment and Direct Debits are not.

Have you checked there was enough balance for it to be paid? :greengrin

If requested on the old card details these will still be paid. Seen it happen lots of times, it will only be rejected if the account is closed.

Think the answer is in your Username. :-)

Have you phoned the bank? They'll know exactly why it failed. Also, when they sent you the new card, they should have advised you to amend any existing payment arrangements you had set up with your old card.

Have just re - read your OP and realised you received the text from your mobile company, not from your bank. If this is the case, it will be a CPA through your card that has failed and the mobile company are lazily referring to that as a direct debit.

Just phone your mobile company and give them the new card details. If there's any charge, refuse to pay it.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Yes, I originally set up my Tesco mobile in the shop as bigwheel suggested, and I have more than enough money in my account so it wasn't caused by by lack of funds lol!

Thanks Furure17 - all makes sense now.:hibees
