Believe it or not, the destruction of the two chimneys was actually aired on tonight's 7pm Australian
broadcasting Corporation (the equivalent of the BBC here) News.....

Brought back memories....

Really sad day.. Made even worse by people cheering and petitioning for a nature reserve. IMO the site must be used to create jobs . not another ego trip by the bought "baron"

My bet is that it will end up as housing and a new village will be created called 'Cockpans'.
Throw in the planned new metropolis 'Blindwells' and keep building till Edinburgh is bigger than London.
All the banks & financial businesses will then move to Tranent & the Pans making it the hub of the world financial market.

Then again, maybe we should just go with a marina and/or a nature reserve.

We should be using it for industrial jobs like it was with the power station and the pit before that. The energy park would safeguard jobs for years to come.

But what about all those folk that bought houses in east Prestonpans after being told the shoreline was going to be developed into a marina?
Residents who saw the prelim plans for the total monstrosity of a wind turbine repair centre, that was initially proposed for the site, gasped in horror - and rightly so. There are many other industries with less in-your-face construction requirements that I'm sure would be more than welcomed by the surrounding populous.

Everybody's all for big industrial plants that bring jobs - if it's in somebody else's back yard.

Maybe it's about time somebody else's back yard took their turn.

I'm from prestonpans .. Born and bred. I'd rather have jobs on my doorstep than a ' marina ' . its the forth ffs not the French riviera. Who do you think will use a marina? There are two harbours in port Seton use them.

Would a marina not create jobs as well?

Personally it's pretty clear to me that the site is not suitable for industrial use with its prominent position on the shore line. Can you imagine the outcry if they decided to build a new cockenzie today!

Not suitable for industrial use?? It has been a industrial site for centuries? Like I said above who is going to use a marina? And no they don't create more than 5-10 jobs. I have enquired about this at rhu marina.( in a naval town) so is a lot busier than a marina in prestonpans will be
