I thought the kid with the ball was funny to be honest, one of those you had to be there moments.

What was funnier was the other 100 bairns running after him down the tunnel

Haha, I know it sounds like I'm being a miserable sod but these balls cost Hibs money (I've heard ~£50 a piece, maybe more). How would folk feel if the same kid had gone into the clubstore and pinched a shirt and ran off with it?

I'm sure the match ball(s) are provided by sponsors.

If that's the case then I stand corrected

FWIW The ball was recovered and returned to the dugout

And the wee man who caught the ball before running through a crowd of bodies and outpacing them down the tunnel has been fast-tracked into Scotland's rugby world cup squad……...

He didn't look like a New Zealander.

I don't agree with this.

Bartley was outstanding and was my MOTM. Even against lesser teams you need to win the ball back quickly to maintain pressure and he did this superbly.

Our team looks much stronger for having a "specialist" ball-winning defensive midfielder and he'd be the first midfielder on the team-sheet for me for that reason.

He allows the other midfielders to play and the fact that a decent case could be made for any of our midfielders to be MOTM today would testify to this.

If we had had another more attacking midfielder on then we might have had the problem where we have the attacking midfielders getting in the way of each other trying to create, something I thought we suffered from on occasion last season.

Absolutely spot on I think Bartley had a cracking game yesterday and allows others to be the creative force, he is a strong lad and quite quick, he rightly should be one of the first names on the team sheet

Agree entirely he provides an excellent balance for the more skillful attacking players. Also good to see two midfielders chipping in with a goal each. Will be the start of many IMO.

Would love to see a 3-5-2 with two true attacking full-backs in McGregor and Boyle or Eckersley. Bartley playing the Matty Jack role:devil:

It's good that we've brought in Eckersley as cover. However, when I watched him last year for Hearts I didn't think he would be a first pick in our team and I still think the same this year. He's valuable cover but not as good as Lewis Stevenson IMHO.

He's 30 now and has a fair bit of experience but is purely here as cover and at this stage in his career, signing till Jan is a decent move for him and us.
