What if anything should be done about them, over the last month or so pulses have been raised by the flying rats in my household ,
a degree of fear has entered whence once there was none ,theyre everywhere a seagull a few inches above your napper flying directly at you gives the impression of being attacked by a terrordactyl, travelling at anything between 16 to 28 mph its not a joke especially when your best attempts to shoo it away with a paper is met with a derisional Caaaaaaaa, Caaaaaaaaaa, Caaaaaaaaaa with another few swoops for good measure ,stealing the wee ones banana was the last straw she dropped it but the wing hit her face .

So I looked up ways of deterring them many just dont work and are a load of crap, its down to birds of pray feeding baskets they cant get into,
feeding them in the first place and a blue or yellow balloon with the evil eye seems to be a very popular deterrent in the States ,when the subjects been brought up more than a few have been swooped umbrellas and sticks were other objects offered as a safety buffer ,any answers .

One thing I did noticed is , as of Friday last the bins and rubbish round the High Street has miraculously disappeared the tourist is a swoop free agent ,but I can guarantee when that last firework lands at the end of the festival, rubbish and Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ,Caaaaaaaaaaaa will return to the good fowk off Edinburgh ,why is that ??

Just a myth I'm afraid to say.

If you see them around and they're making eye contact with you (I kid you not), you should point at them as this lets them know that you're aware of them.

If they swoop down at you, raise your hand above your head as that frightens them off.

The old exploding thing is a myth but I know it does kill pidgeons, I'd assume it does the same to gulls

They've been a bit more bonkers over the last month or so because their chicks have started leaving the nest.

I don't know why but I'm desperate to try this.

Try it at ER and see what happens! :-) If it works make sure the Irish lad interviews you about it and puts it on here.

Was sitting the other day and watched as a seagull flew right at this woman and took her greggs right out her hands. Was pretty funny to be honest but can see how scary it would be if it had happened to a kid.

Depends, what with?

I find a CO2 fire extinguisher is very effective.
