Heard he got man of the match. What did those who were there think of him? I have high hopes :-)

Thought he did very well for a first appearance. Tough, quite quick, and comfortable on the ball.

Looks like we have a new Matty Jack :-). Composed , good work rate , wins the ball back.

Looked secure and did OK. Would liked to have seen him go up for a corner or 2. even his presence in there could have caused problems.

Thought he did well. A big guy that won a lot of balls and also looked like he has a bit of pace on him to track back.

Good first impression :aok:

Simply excellent. Looked in control throughout, reads the game well, has great upper body strength and can pick a pass.

He'll dae!

Decent but let's not get carried away it was Scotlands worst team we were playing. But he's big and strong and likes to tackle not sure how mobile he is.

Looks like a decent find.

Strong, tenacious, tracks back well. Good, solid DM. Won't get barged off the ball easily, put it that way!

Looks like exactly what we are looking for. Good start.

He looked OK, didn't do anything wrong, and had a good game.

But it's very early days to be judging the player. It was Bartley's first game with his new team mates and the strength of the opposition has to be taken on board. Montrose were just the latest pub team to park the bus at ER, looking to keep the score respectable.

Looks good. Will find out that not all teams are as poor as Montrose.

Big unit, broke up play well, seemed comfortable on.the ball, worked hard, won a few meaty tackles and was very strong.

Hard to judge against the standard of opposition but he looked a decent find imo.

He played 65 games for Burnley between 2011- 2014 in the English Championship so you would expect he would be a good addition to play in the Scottish Championship.

Reads the game well and broke up play.

If he stays injury free and gains some sharpness as he's hardly trained he will be decent.

Don't think he's great in the air though.

I thought he looked very composed, strong on the ball and passed it well, had a couple of good sliding challenges and didn't try anything too outrageous, but definitely a strong ball winning midfielder and he has a bit of pace about him, chased down a couple of Montrose players to win the ball back

Sort of player we need. A no nonsense type, who'll allow the better technical players to thrive

Doesn't seem to be good in the air. First two jumps mistimed or misjumped. Different on the deck. Solid and safe. Big quick strides. Made it back a few times despite a heads start. Looks as though he'll do us.

Good stuff! For all it was limited opposition it's also his first game in Scotland..sound like a very promising start..if the jack role is filled it's time we had a new crunchie

He was good at making up for his own mistakes, hopefully he won't make them when he's up to speed. I will judge him when we play against better opposition, but I quite liked what I saw.

Looked like he'll give 100% every game. Different from our other midfielders. On that performance admittedly against dire opposition he's a good signing.

Good solid debut, nothing fancy Dan, just done his job, broke up play, harried, hassled and kept it simple, tired but was to be expected.

Quietly efficient which is apparently good enough to win man of the match :greengrin

Excellent player. Comfortable on the ball, good physical presence and ball-winner. More defensive-minded than he needed to be against this particular opposition. Preferred to pass to the side or behind him rather than start an attacking move. His strengths will be more obvious against better opponents.

Bartley read the game well and kept it simple to allow other players to do more attacking. I'm satisfied with what I saw given that today was as much about match fitness as anything.

He did fine.

I don't think you can make too many comments on the back of a match against Montrose though.

I think we will see an improvement when he reaches full fitness! I read that Eddie Howe took him with him to Burnley, cost £400k, When Howe went back to Bournemouth he tried to get Bartley and was told it would cost 4-5 Mill. Obviously thought highly of him.

I heard he was MOM yesterday...He has though played 70 games in the last 5 years...20 of them last season (less than half Dundee's games). We have enough of that in our squad at the moment. He is unfortunately one of these guys who has had injuries and continues to get them....top player though - at his best can dictate the tempo of a game.

Decent first game. Did the simple things - simply. No nonsense player by looks of it. Had a touch of the Matty Jack or David Rocastle about him. Runs forward a bit like like Patrick Vieira did for Arsenal. That was my first thought. If he's 10% of a Vieira, he'll do.:thumbsup:

Don't think Keatings and Cummings will play together too often-both out and out strikers.

They will play lots of games together and score lots of goals. I doubt anyone has seen enough of Keatings to say he is too similar to Jason but I hope he is because Jason is a class act.

He looked a touch rusty but early impressions of his style of play he is exactly what we need.

Robertson did fine in the (mainly) defensive role last year but he was a square peg in a round hole. This guy is there to win the ball in midfield and that's what he does.

I think he's going to be quietly brilliant.

Decent debut, hope he can be threatening at set pieces but maybe not.
