The Mrs and I have been watching The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies. Having worked in the Police I have seen my fair share of human and animal suffering/cruelty. Last nights episode still shocked me as did the other episodes and it really shocked my wife. How can people be so ****ing cruel and heartless towards there dogs? It baffles and angers me that the prosecution rate on these disgusting incidents still seems to be very low. I know it's very hard to bring these people to court and am in no way blaming the SSPCA and police. I suppose I'm just having a rant. Just disgusts me...

Saw it too. Wish I hadn't. Heart breaking stuff.

We watched a bit of it as well. My wife is a vet, so she's had some horror stories to tell from her work too.

I don't get how someone could wilfully mistreat an animal.
I've had a dog and 2 cats from the cat and dog home plus a stray cat we took in as well and every one has become part of my family from the minute they arrived until the day they (well 2 of them) died. How anyone could choose to hurt them, starve them or whatever else is beyond me. The punishments should be far tougher. Starving a dog to death can see people get off with a fine and a ban on having another animal, ****s should be locked up.

I couldn't watch a programme like that in the first place.
The punishments for mistreating animals are too lenient.

I couldn't watch the Dog rescuers, as an animal lover I do donate to PETA now and again and a couple of days ago a PETA questionnaire came through the post... some of the articles about dog and cat fur in China made me physically sick.

Last nights episode would have sickened you mate. As others say the punishments for this are far too lenient. I know how hard it is to prosecute offenders so why not make the consequences bad enough to make these cowards think twice?!

So much **** in the world. Animal cruelty is down there with the worst offences imo and should be punishable by jail sentence, especially in the extreme cases.

Cruelty to animals is one of the character aspects which nearly always rates highly in the evaluation of psychopaths. Tells you all you need to know really.

Read a book called "Talking with Serial Killers" a few years ago and in nearly every case animal cruelty was present at some point in them growing up. I can't remember who wrote the book but it's a fascinating read... As long as you have a strong stomach and mind!
Its written by Christopher Berry-Dee.

There is a guy who has moved up the road from me who was banned from keeping animals after he had over 50 dead, inbred hamsters at his house in town. He has moved out here and has 2 dogs who are never walked and when I see them at the window they look seriously underfed.
At least 4 or 5 people in the area have reported him but the SSPCA are doing **** all about it. Any idea who else I could call?

It's just the SSPCA as I understand it. They are massively under-resourced though and received a huge number of calls - they simply can't investigate all cases as quickly as they would like to.
The best bet is to keep calling them if the situation is continuing/worsening and it may move it up the priority list.

As Future says mate the SSPCA are so busy it's unreal. However, keep at them and when you speak to them tell them you are getting seriously concerned for the well being of the dogs. They will get to it but just try and make them aware that the dogs are being mistreated and if something isn't done quickly they will have a couple of dead animals to deal with.
