New club captain as well. Great bit of news.

Hopefully the first of many announcements. This is where Hibs will shift season tickets, by securing good players and building an exciting team. It's not going to break the bank getting our good players tied down, and hopefully the fans see the ambition, buy into it, and give Stubbs the money to bring new players in.

Wonder if this means Fontaine not staying, hope not.

I feel it would make more sense to announce the players out of contract who aren't being offered renewals at the same time, so considering that Craig is the only confirmed departure, might that not suggest the opposite for Fontaine? If a player isn't being offered a new deal, that's that, it can be announced readily, however every new contract/extension is subjective, some take longer than others, there are so many differing demands, circumstances and factors that effect the progress of new deals, so it's not always possible to announce new contracts simultaneously. That's not saying he won't leave, but it certainly appears that Hibs are at least trying to secure a new contract for Fontaine.

By Gray being captain? Gray was the vice captain this season with Fontaine filling in when both Craig and Gray were not in the team. Stubbs obviously rates Gray as a captain more than Fontaine so I wouldn't read too much into whether this has an influence over Fontaine staying.

Great news about Gray!

With regards to Fontaine, I know there was an issue where he wasn't going to uproot his family for a 1 year deal this year, so hopefully we can offer him a longer term deal so he can get his family up and settle down for a few years.

I like the way we have reacted to defeat. No mumping, moaning and feeling sorry for ourselves, operation "back to the big time" has started immediately and I bet everyone is working flat out to get a squad together early.

I really like this new way of doing things.

He does indeed.

I know it's only talk, but the noises coming from the club are encouraging - it's all about putting things right and coming back up as champions.

I think the Yams romping the league this season has probably given the players the motivation to go and repeat it. They know they have to come out the blocks flying next season, and that if they do the rewards are there.

I'm impressed that we're getting our ducks in order early this season as well. Makes a very refreshing change.

I agree...very refreshing ....it's very much 'let's get this done'...it's also the first time that I can remember a Hibs manager getting off the fence and stating what is expected from day one next season...I think it'll be a very focussed pre-season

Hibs tend not to announce new signings or extensions at the same time.

I'm sure we will be drip fed one at a time to keep morale high and keep the kettle boiling for season ticket sales und share uptake.

And even with Whittaker, the debate at the time was whether he was really a right back, given he was a converted midfielder! Good news on Gray.

Has that tactic ever worked?

I understand the logic but I think the club would get a better response if they were just honest and announced things when we had news to announce.

I've no idea if the tactic has worked or not, pretty sure Hibs aren't either. Don't even know how you would measure it.

If we had defeated Rangers I'm not so sure David's extension would have been announced today.

Need to see the shorts and socks as well to see how it all goes together but tbh the shirt is quality. Best looking shirt for a few years. I am hoping for a really good away top as well. I personally loved the purple one!

I will be getting both home and away shirt this season and I'll be getting my ST very soon - this is even more encouragement (good signings/contract extensions early!)
