There are usually about a million placards hanging off lampposts by this time in a GE, but I haven't seen any this year.

Have the by-laws changed?

Not even noticed that until you mentioned it! ..... Hmmmm...... Maybe they get fed up paying the respective councils for clearing up the one they miss :-)

Just a sign of the times I suppose!

Hahah! Very good.

Most of the parties have databases of likely supporters so they prefer mailshots, door to door canvassing and the like to the old style "lamp post" campaigning.

They know so much about you, it's pretty bizarre. Reading between the lines of what I get, Labour and the SNP think I am a potential voter. I get personalised letters from Labour: I have had 4 on the run up to this election. The SNP send me the occasional letter addressed personally. The rest come in the free post or delivered by party activists. I've had one thing from the Tories and one from the Lib Dems (which sadly, didn't include their usual shonky graph showing how only the LibDems can challenge).

I miss the visibility of the posters and the sense of occasion, but I suppose it's all done online now and in the privacy of your own post box.

If they have databases of likely supporters, why do the Conservatives still send me rubbish?

It's a pity. I used to like all the colours everywhere.

It added something to polling day and made the trip to the polling station feel like you were involved in something important.

Not allowed down East Lothian due to council rules:rules:

Maybe it's because they don't want to shed any light on their real agendas?

I was up in Aviemore last week and there were loads of placards, including massive Danny Alexander ones. I was amused to see the Conservative candidate is Edward Mountain :greengrin

I suppose social media has a lot to do with it. The time you climb up a ladder and tie a bit paper on to a lamp post you could have tweeted a million people 10 times over.

Only correspondence I've had directly was a leaflet from the Conservative candidate. Seen a few SNP window posters and a car drove by with a bunch of SNP stuff on it when I was in the town centre.

Think all the unionist parties have written this area off, bizarrely aside from David Coburn who's convinced he'll win.

UKIP candidate in Barnsley is a Wayne Kerr, if you are looking for appropriate names.
