I'm pretty certain that I saw this reported at breakfast in my hotel, this morning.

How come it's been refreshed on the BBC news site 55 minutes ago, like it's a new story?

In fact, there are FIVE articles about it on the BBC's election 2015 page!

Balanced news????

When someone updates the story or edits it then it will show as updated whenever it was last changed, nothing more than that.

Its a big story today in terms of the UK election, tomorrow it will be something else.

If you click the Scotland tab then the story is not even featured.

How dare the BBC make headline news that the government make an important tax pledge that people might be interested in only 1 week before the general election. Maybe MI5 hacked into the servers and did it.

I would be interested in how they define "no tax rises", but no commentator or opponent has asked the question.

Was it not specific to income tax, national insurance and VAT? I would check but cannot find the story on the BBC anymore.

Yeah but....

They haven't raised tax rates in the last Government, but they have lowered the thresholds at which people pay Higher Rate tax in each of the last 4 (maybe 5?) years.

In other words, they have raised Income Tax for some people, without actually raising the rates.

I'd be very suspicious of such a bland statement...... but then I'm not a politician or a journalist. :greengrin

:agree:

Basically it's another politically coded statement similar to this ....

the BBC is usually seen as Labour's mouthpiece but their website often messes things up and on the 24 hour news channel things are repeated over and over again!

They said before the last election that they wouldn't raise VAT, then raised it right away. To give themselves some credibility they say they will make it a law this time. If we were to have another recession the law would be changed. It's the worst gimmick in a campaign full of them.
