Looking for some advice;
Currently been off work for a couple of days as I couldn't walk without a severe limp. Was ok on Tuesday but woke up on Wednesday unable to put any weight down on my left foot.
I have not knowingly injured myself and apart from a hill walk last week and a Pilates class on Monday, I can't think of any other activities I've done that could be an issue.
Attended minor injuries at the Western General and the guy that saw me advised that it 'could' be Achilles tendinitis. Told to rest and take strong painkillers.
The thing is, pain killers and NSAID's are having zero effect, I'm now crawling about on my hands and knees or hopping about on my good leg as I can't put the heel of my other foot anywhere near the ground!

I've always had fairly tight achilles, coupled with a pronounced Haglunds bump but I've always been fairly active and never encountered this kind of debilitating pain before.

So, do we reckon a good rest will alleviate it or am I possibly looking at a corrective operation on the heel to release the tendon before it ruptures?

I know it's a big ask, looking for medical advice without being physically assessed,,,,just frustrated how I have become housebound overnight and with no alleviated symptoms with the meds.

Sounds like you need A&E, mate, rather than quack advice online. Get yourself seen to, if it's that bad.

Last time I had something similar it was ankle ligaments rather than Achilles tendon. Was given very strong painkillers, crutches and told to rest. Took about 10 days before I could put any weight on my foot. If it's the tendon you'll be a lot longer for recovery. Get to the A&E asap.

I had insertional Achilles tendinitis on both sides and was nowhere near the state your in. Not convinced with your diagnosis.
I'd go to a private physio. I bypass doc and the NHS for a diagnosis with things like this, going private is about £30-40 and done right away, i recently used a guy in Fauldhouse for my son when he tore his ankle ligaments who I'd recommend if your out west,

I couldnt walk for days and put off the docs. I ended up with a blood clot. Get to a and e not worth risk.

Thanks Guys & Gal, message received and understood, "Get to A&E!".
The minor injuries at the Western are not normally too bad with diagnosis but something just doesn't sit right with me this time, hence the post.
The pain when I try to stand is that bad I could greet and I've not done that since I was a wee laddie,,,,
Will head to A&E tomorrow morning, will let the Friday night madness die down first,,,,

I don't mean to belittle your symptoms which sound pretty debilitating but it is not correct to go to a and e. This is neither an accident or an emergency. You need to see a gp in the first instance who can you refer you for physio/specialist opinion if necessary so if you can hang on until Monday that would be preferable to see your own. Failing that phone nhs 24 who can organise you to see an out of hours gp today.

Not belittling at all mate, the reason I posted was to get another opinion as I didn't think A&E would be able to do too much and I didn't want to tie up a valuable resource.
However, after a bad night on Friday my wife forced me to go to A&E yesterday, I missed what some say was our game of the season but hey ho!
Was advised I had serious inflammation of the paratendon, if not a tear. Been told to stay off my feet but was also given crutches which confused me.
The most frustrating thing is, I was initially told to rest for a couple of days, now looks like it's going to be 2-4 weeks and if no improvement they are then going to put my foot in a cast/boot.
I'm frustrated, not because I was led to believe I'd only be off a few days but rather because I'm now going to be off work for a month if not more. My employers will pay full pay so that's not the issue, it's just I'm going to go stir crazy in this house and possibly miss our playoffs.
