Arriving into Glasow airport from Ireland early doors on Saturday morning - so looking for somewhere decent enough for a swift pint / breakfast before heading through to Hampden. Have my son (Hibby) and a friend and his son (not Hibbys yet) with me so looking for a bit of atmosphere to calm my nerves.

Thinking of bus from airport to city centre. Pub. Train over to Hampden (though a taxi may be cheap enough?).

Don't fly back till late, so looking for a pub to watch Arsenal match. Didin't realise Man U Chelsea is at the same time, so not sure if this will be an issue.

Iron Horse in the centre has an 8am license and that's where we're heading.

Alfredo's across the road from there for me.

Thanks Sean. Looks ideal if the breaksfasts are still on on matchdays. Like the look of Haggis pakoras. Introduce my Irish friends to tradiotonal Scottish cuisine.

It's a decent enough boozer and you can get some breakfast rolls as well so that's where we are going too for a couple of pre match beers.

I think you've got to buy a breakfast roll with your first pint in either of the two pubs mentioned. Alfredo's has plenty tvs and will show both t-time games.

This was certainly the case before the Celtic cup final.

Any issue with having children in the bar before or after? They're 14 and pretty much house trained. Would be leaving after the Arsenal match - so around 7 - 7.30 or so.

No problem before hand with kids as long as they kept out the way.

Unsure about later on but ask them when you are there in the morning.

If in doubt, give them bell.

What train are you on Dave? Think we're on the 7 o'clock

Most places will let you in if your eating so buy them a plate of chips .

It won't the 7am one, that's just a bit too sharp!

Probably 8 or 8.15

Thanks for that Sean. Think that's where I might head with my brother (Hibby) whose coming up from Stoke and gets in at 9. Happy Days.

The Smiddy in Partick is a braw pub and not too far away from Dumpden

crap train times from glasgow central to mount florida  don't get in to queen street till 10:14 then quick walk down to central , train leaves central at 11:05 and arrives 11:15 mount florida, can't remember if theres any boozers en route from Mt flo to hampden, and if there are what's the chances of getting in at 11:20(ishy) :eyes:

or, are we just as well getting somewhere near george square and getting a taxi to hampden

The walk between stations won't take 45 minutes. Trains to Mount Florida are at 5, 20, 35 and 50 minutes after the hour so you should manage the 35 or 50 minute trains, getting in at 10:45 or 11:00

Taxis in Glasgow, as I'm constantly pleasantly reminded whenever I'm there, cost next to **** all.

Especially if you're in a group and if there's any doubt over timing, I'd just jump in a taxi

Yep. 10 minute walk between the 2 at most, unless you're crawling or something !!

If you jump in a taxi at central with 5 of you it is cheaper to do this than all 5 pay the train fare to Hampden.

If you get off at kings park there are a couple of boozers en route to the stadium. Might have buses booked in though. Its only a 5 min walk from both stations so I find it best to stay in the city centre for a beer and then head up to the ground. Again, if there's a group of you a taxi works out pretty cheap and only takes 10 mins.

I wouldn't fancy walking from Partick to Hampden - you wopuld need to leave at half ten to make the kick-off. :greengrin

i think i've read the central-mt flo timetable wrongly :embarrass so, we would get down to central from queen street for 10:30..couple o pints in the bar at the back of central, then get the 11:35 central to mt florida train which arrives at 11:45, wee walk down to the north stand, or is that a bit tight for the KO :greengrin

Looks like a few heading for the Iron Horse in West Nile Street. Head there for about 10 and get a cab about 11.15-11.30. Private hire cabs are cheep. We could all leave together and head to the game.
