London Major has turned out to be a decent political job.
Interesting, though, that Labour not only cannot find one working class white man to run but cannot find one working class white person to run.

What a strange thing to say. I'm very confused.
Why have you distinguished between a working class white "man" and a working class white "person".
Would the latter not have covered all bases?
Why white?
Why working class?

Yep if I was from London I'd be damm sure I wouldn't want anyone non white and minus a peni5 representing me.
The fact they would be of the same demographic of well over half the population is a minor inconvenience.

I would have expected that the party of the working classes might have been able to find at least one white working class candidate. I suppose this is not an issue compared with the lack of female contestants on University Challange or the need for a female James Bond which is far more important to their middle class leader.
Personally, I think Jowell and Kahn are good candidates. My comment is more about the orientation of the Labour party these days.

What is the working class?

So some folk are still determining a political candidate's suitability on race, gender and/or class?

You seem confused.
And there I was thinking it was me.
Your original post criticised Labour for not being able to find a white male candidate. Very peculiar.
What would the choice of a female ex-social worker say about the Labour Party these days?

The privately educated one?
That'll be her.
Is it reverse snobbery with you or sexism? Or both?
Your OP would suggest both along with racism, but I could be mistaken.
Which of the leaders have your approval?

The list of candidates is unrepresentative.

How many white working class men tried to stand for Labour's mayoral candidate but were blocked?
Or are you saying that Labour should be using positive discrimination in favour of white men?

That would be interesting to know. Men weren't allowed to stand for Labour in my ward and no working class women came forward. Just the middle class political automatons.
My impression of te current labour party is that is is profoundly disinterested in promoting the aspirations of white working class people, preferring to keep them in their place to be used as a vote bank.

I see Labour have wheeled out Tony Blair to talk about Britain's place in Europe and David Cameron - does Ed not realise this is close to electoral suicide!?

This is catastrophic for the SNP, Labour need to hold their own in the rest of the UK, if they crash and burn like they did in Scotland then that leaves the door open for a Tory majority.

Miliband now wants to scrap the non Dom legislation because why should ex pats enjoy all the benefits of British citizenship but not pay for it. What benefits? I was denied a passport for my boy and can't vote in the country of my birth. Cheap trick aimed at those who can't hold him to account for it.
Can see myself becoming Herr Hibrandenburg in the not too distant future.

So, not only are you now living "out in the provinces", you may have to become a German too - Never mind maybe we'll win this evening! :greengrin
.... it's a fair point about ex-pats not being entitled to vote, particularly with the referendum coming up, dare say many of "us" have been here for some time, I could still vote it seems as I was living back in the UK for a couple of years a while back ... The non-Doms is a contentious issue, many people (Mr. A among others) have abused it - wonder why Labour never did anything about it during all those years of power?

Nowadays "working class" surely just means that they have a job. There is a huge section of the population who don't.
