Britain's worst ever I believe. The saddest part is many of the survivors ended up at Gallipoli!

I think the saddest part is how little is known about it. I appreciate in war times these sort of things may have been hushed up to not affect morale however that is a huge loss of life in an accident.

My brother who stays down south was visiting Isle of Lewis last year and they have a horrible story at the end of the war of a ship full of returning sailors from WW1 sinking in Stornoway harbour with huge loss of life. Here is a link. Had never heard of this before.

Agreed on both counts Jim. I only knew about the Iolaire through reading Peter May's Lewis trilogy in recent years.
