Anybody else think the exploitation of this man's memory is verging on the tasteless; surely a quiet burial with a service of remembrance would be more appropriate?

As it stands it is like a pound shop state funeral.

I don't mind it to be honest although I don't understand queuing for 4 hours to get a look at the coffin. :greengrin

I've been fascinated by this story the past few years and watch all the documentaries about it.

Unless there was another reason for that ...

Its a great story, i dont like royalty or unnecessary pomp but this is real history come alive (not literally, that would be zombies). More of it please.

At the very least they could have blasted out the Supergrass song named after him.

His closest living relative made it.

Don't you think it's a bit Disneyfied with the knights in shining armour etc. ? Love the story though.

I'm sure there will be a cab firm in Leicester with a slogan like "Leave the Horse at Home, It Won't Cost a Kingdom" .

What I want to know is, if Henry VI Part One's buried in Westminster Abbey, where have they buried Parts Two and Three?

Well yeah, they had to ask this guy for his DNA to prove it was R3. And then he happened to throw in he was a jobbing carpenter and was available to work evenings, no questions asked. Next thing, somebody's in the background saying - "oh aye, oor Tam kin turn his hands to anything".

To cut a long story short, it was kind of hard to turn the guy down.

I'd love to have seen their faces when he actually turned up with the thing and a bill for £45,000 (cash in hand no questions asked).

For a minute I thought this would be a thread on toilet humour.

Many people weren't surprised when the body was found. Apparently every car park in Leicester is covered in Richard the Thirds.

I think we should dig up more dead Royals, parade their cadavers around the streets then dig a random hole somewhere and shove them back under the ground.

I'm sure the behaviour of the current lot would improve.

I love history, it must be very exciting for everybody involved to have made a discovery of such historical significance.

I presume the family are paying for the re internment ?

He's no more related to the family than you or I ( if you refer to the Saxe-Coburg Gotha's?)

I was outraged of Morningside this morning when some plonker on Radio 2 ( a beeb employee) referred to him as a British King, casually forgetting that Britain didn't exist for another 250 years. To think they actually pay good money to achieve that level of insight too.

I was a bit confused by the debate on where to bury him. The suggestion was it would have been his wish, as a Yorkist, to be buried in York Minster. I can't help think that as a devout Roman Catholic he may not have been overly thrilled at that idea, or Leicester Cathedral for that matter.

York Minster was built as a catholic place of worship centuries before Richard was born, I reckon it would have sufficed.

Interesting that the nave was built on the site of the Roman fortress, indeed on the fort HQ. York was the military capital of Roman England for much of their occupation.

I thought the roses being thrown like at Diana's was way OTT.

Enjoyed explaining at work with no sense of shame that he wasn't my king, but crack on.

You won't have seen Dave MacKay's funeral yesterday. One saddo tried to throw a white rose onto the cortege.

(No insult to MacKay, or Hearts here - it's just another example of the recreational grief that has become a national sport since Diana's death.)

I thought there was something rather Pythonesque about the whole business. The commentators were unsure whether to be solemn and Dimblebyish or matter of fact and upbeat.
