Thankfully never touched any of those brands. I'm a self-confessed wine snob though so probably wouldn't have anyway!

If anyone is looking for a properly superb wine for under a tenner then get the Tesco Finest Tingleup Riesling, it's really really good.

Thanks for the recommendation. It's a struggle to find anything of merit in Tesco.

Got an OK Bekaa Valley Chateau Musar from Lebanon at the mo. Thought I'd better get in there before ISIS torch the vines.

I've been collecting that wine for years and have most vintages from 1982 onwards. Probably my favourite wine.

Alas, 50% of the bottles 'cork' after time and usually end up as gravies or the bases for stews. The 50% that are drinkable are worth every penny invested.

BTW - the vineyard was land-mined by those Israeli scamps during the Lebanon/Isreal conflict and production was halted for a few years. The wines they did produce are now sold at a premium.

I am fond of a good Riesling and have tried most of the supermarkets, most really quiet poor so was surprised at how good this Tesco one actually was.

The diversity of people using this forum never ceases to pleasantly surprise me.

So, there's is up to 5 times more arsenic in these cheap wines than is permitted in the american drinking water regulations. I'll admit I do not know what concentrations are permitted in water but I'll hazard a guess the limits are really low (parts per billion). If you think how much water you drink, how much is used in the preparation and cleaning of food etc, there is only a slight chance of these wines being a problem if you drink a lot, and when your drinking to excess it's not just the arsenic you need to worry about. I'm thinking this court case is about people who've become ill but don't really know why, and someone ( a lawyer?) has suggested they could get compensation. I think they'll find it really hard to prove their case.

its a very vague article, nothing to worry about IMO.
