This is worth a read for anyone interested in a better TV deal for Scottish football. It's basically a summary of a proposal that is one the table for a digital streaming channel. A lot of interesting points.

Interesting read that. 250,000 subs to break even, and he reckons 500,000 is achievable, not sure TBH as a lot of folk seem set in their ways with regards to Sky/BT Sports. It would depend on the monthly sub cost but I would probably subscribe if it meant a more balanced and comprehensive coverage of the game up here.

Make of that what you will but looking at some of those figures (especially the ones struggling to get 40k viewers) I think the article is way off from what they can expect subscription wise. Also kinda shows why our televised deal is so pish :greengrin

If you can get 300,000 people watching Dundee utd v Celtic and 170k watching Hibs v Berwick then its not hard to imagine that 500k would sign up at a very cheap 5 pound a month. If that can be acheived it almost doubles the income from the current deal. What makes you think that these figures can't be acheived?

Fiver a month is great value, presuming that would give access to a streaming app and on demand content too in time.

They were both important Scottish Cup quarter final matches that even a neutral would take an interest in.

If you look at the flip side Ross County v Dundee Utd and St Johnstone v Motherwell both had under 40k viewers. Even The Rangers and Celtic league matches are hovering around the 100k mark.

Some games are more popular than others which is why you bundle the games up into one subscription. For you £5 a month you get about 20 games, some of which may be unexciting but will also include and old firm game (1.2m viewers) or an Edinburgh derby.

Pretty sure they were the only two games on Skysports that day. If there was a premiership card on that weekend they figures would have been halved.
