Thought last night was the first time we seemed to have a few tired legs, impressed that it's taken this long before we've really started to look at resting some players for a game here or there. Sevco have more games to play than us and are toiling far more already - got a feeling we'll pass them off the park next time around.

All credit to those involved in the new setup, from what I hear it's a far more scientific way to managing fitness and it's impressive that we're able to rotate the team significantly, change shape and still pick up the three points. More signs of green shoots of improvement from the club.

Heard a small bit of Heartssound last night and Allan Preston was saying that Hearts train at 9.30 am every Sunday, Monday off and then double sessions, even triple sessions some days. Seems to be the old 'established' managers are now being left behind and the new breed of coaches, Stubbs, Neilson etc are the way forward

Was this not similar to what Collins wanted but the players moaned about the extra sessions, Celtic are one of the fittest in ths country as Collins and Deila have a similar outlook to playing and fitness of players.

:agree:

It's taken best part of a decade, but it seems we are finally using our training facilities in the right way.

Was that not cited by the Tornadoes as the reason they failed to win the league as they were knackered by the end of the season because ET over trained them and didn't give them enough rest.?

You may be right AH, though how ET would have reacted to a sports scientist and the rest of the team that Stubbsy has round him telling him what to do.....:timebomb::greengrin

Fitness was so effin obvious a way of teams with a constrained budget punching above their weight and it makes me spew that Collins philosophy didn't bed in - for whatever the reason. We are therefore IMO now 7 years behind where we should have been (and extending our competitive advantage from a facilities/finance perspective. Better late than never but wtf were folks doing - caught in the headlights of a new facility and clueless as to how to maximise the resources available - astounding. Lesson in life it ain't what you do/got its the way that you use it - and that's what gets results. Unfortunately we didn't get Bananarama - only Fun Boy 3 Calderclown, Hughes and Butcher... On reflection I think that Pat left with his dignity intact.

Fixed that for you.

I prefer Newry Hibs' thinking. He has Sevco Huns finishing third or fourth, then being knocked out immediately by Falkirk or QotS which provides two more opportunities to laugh at them compared to them finishing fifth and missing the playoffs altogether.

Don't look to fit on the front page of the Sun today, and is that a kebab in his hand, and a cup final coming up this weekend, Ronnie & JC won't be happy bunnies.

IIRC it wasn't the players who said this - Turnbull himself admitted as much in the video about that team that came out some years ago.

I recall he said he upped the training after the 7-0 at Tynie and admitted that that probably took the edge off them.

Respect to him for saying as much.

Yup - they've really got through to Scotty Broon ...

Hey - wasn't he one of the guys who objected to that regime when Collins introduced it at ER?

IIRC a lot of the younger players bought into Collins way of thinking, wee Stevenson was one, he won MOM at the final against Killie and look at him now, very seldom misses a game and mr steady.

When we played Celtc in the Scottish cup final, they were faster, fitter and most certainly stronger than us all over the park. Apart from Claros, our players were knocked aside with ease and it looked like big men against wee laddies. I think things have certainly improved on that front under Stubbs but a few gym sessions to increase the upper body strength still wouldn't go amiss for some.

Don't really see a story regarding Scotty Brown, other he likes a bevy. Getting pissed 5 days before a game is not going to affect his performance, if selected, as it will be well out of his system by then. It's obviously not the best way a professional sportsperson can treat his/her body, but it's probably more a bad example to set for youngsters than anything to do with the cup final in 5 days time.
