Not sticking up for Thatcher, but it appears that there were people from all across political spectrum at it - I don't know why she should be singled out for criticism on this issue.

I agree - these people didn't become paedophiles because she was in charge. The whole cover up has been going on for centuries.

Maybe she was the only PM who knew about it. She's probably only 2nd to Winston Churchill in being the most powerful poilitical figure of the 20th century, anything she's accused off is going to make headlines.

I doubt that very much as she only became PM in 1979 and noncing in political circles has been going on since the dawn of democracy.

The party leaders, and above all their Chief Whips, generally know everything that their MPs get up to.

She's probably just the first to be named then

She's dead and hated by the majority - easy target!

Thatcher would be the most high profile and generate the most headlines. Its also easier to accuse someone who's dead

You're right, there were, but members of her cabinet were involved and she did nothing, in fact she condones their actions by promoting them to those elevated positions.

It's possible, even probable, that she used her knowledge of their actions to keep them in line, but she wont have been the first or last political leader to employ such methods.

If she's the only politician who knew about it, she's gone up in my estimation. (She is starting from a very low point.)

You might say that that is part of the politician's craft.

The only Prime Minister i said. Im not really sure myself why she's been singled out here, I'm only offering some possible reasons.

Don't think she's being singled out at all. It's just the information has emerged she was complicit in keeping hush-hush about the people involved. It's news, tomorrow's fish and chip paper once it's out there. No one in the media will harp on about it and her political offspring in the current regime will set about continuing with their plans for a Museum dedicated to her "achievements" - doubt there will be an exhibit about her pal Jimmy Savile in there somehow.

You're alright. I just meant to point out that it is very unlikely she was the first PM to know what was going on.

'cept there's no evidence of him doing anything or covering anything up, unlike Thatcher.

That's right - and if Ted said he didn't know anything about it, then that would be fine by me. Why would he lie, or cover it up?
